  1. C’mon girls bring it home 🇮🇪 💪🏻👊🏻

  2. From the cheers there in the intro, half of Ireland are over there. We got nearly as big a cheer as the French.

  3. Sickeningly close to get another 4th, but a hell of a performance from a group who weren’t even expected to get to the final.

If you ever want to see just how fast Adeleke is though, all you need to do is watch that race. The Americans walked it by 50+ metres, but I would honestly not be shocked to see if Rhadisat posted a faster individual time than any of them.

Edit: 4th fastest, it turns out (48.92 seconds) – one American (McLaughlin) beat her by a solid second, Bol (the Dutch one at the end) beat her by 0.28 seconds, and Alexis Holmes (the last American) by 0.14 seconds… but all the relay expertise I have picked up in the last 48 minutes tells me handing off the baton might have been the difference between her and Holmes/Bol, as most teams final runners tended to have their fastest times. Which kind of makes the McLaughlin time all the more ridiculous.

  4. Heart is broken for them, so close. And Ciara Mageean. Bring on LA 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

  5. A weak first and 3rd leg. Asked too much from the other two. So blooming close. Great effort but just not enough gas in the tank.

  6. What an outstanding effort. Truly proud of them.

  7. I thought that was brilliant running against a strong lineup, that’s just fantastic

  8. 2 really classy legs, the others fought hard but were a level below that required. Must be so frustrating. We should now rename our country to Ireland Fourth instead of Ireland.

  9. I have to ask… would a short back & sides have made them a bit more aerodynamic & lighter to get that single second advantage???

  10. Mawdsley is a machine. Kept up with Bol. Another few feet and the Brit was caught too. Incredible race.

  11. You can’t fault a team that brings home a national record.

    Well done ladies.

Are the full team professional? I think some of them aren’t full time athletes. I know they won’t medal as individuals so funding is probably limited.

Might be worth funding them given that there is obvious medal potential with this bunch backing up Adeleke.

Edit: Rte just mentioned that Sophie Becker and Phil Healy have full time jobs.

  12. What a performance, well done girls. Imagine being disappointed 2 nights in a row at the end of an Olympics in Ireland. Who’d have thought it!? Incredible stuff from them.

More money into athletics (and other sports) and less into racing dogs and horses!

  13. So close again, they did amazing and watching them tear up is making me tear up they should be proud

The future for the Olympics for us is looking so good

  14. Heartbroken for them as they were agonizingly close.

Likely the last chance at an Irish medal until LA (or I suppose Milan 2026 🤔😏).

Not Irish but I’ve enjoyed watching the Irish support at these Olympics and feel fortunate to have witnessed every gold and 2 of the bronze medals in person.

Obviously I support my own country as well, but seeing your country come together for these athletes (even those that come home with “nothing”) is truly something special and nothing like what would ever happen in my country (the 1980 ice hockey team maybe being an exception).

I look forward to continuing to support Irish sport and I’ll see you all at the Aviva for the England association football match and the Argentina rugby match.

Unrelated, what am I supposed to call association football? I feel like whichever answer I give the guards at the airport they correct me 😅

  15. Absolutely gutted for them.

They ran such a great race. National record and nearly all of them ran a PB or close to it.

4th in an Olympics Sprint relay is unprecedented but in the fastest _ever_ legit race that contained McLaughlin and Bol is even more impressive (even though they might not feel that way now)

They were all outstanding but a special mention has to go to Phil Healy who out did herself to keep the distance that Adeleke gave her.

Fucking hell they were so good

  16. It’s agonizing but the profile they are raising for the sport is massive. Fingers crossed more talent will begin to emerge inspired by the example of the team.
