France: Efforts to form new government drag on • FRANCE 24 English

France’s political parties scrambled Friday (July 12) to break a parliamentary deadlock brought on by an inconclusive snap election. With each of the three blocs controlling roughly one-third of the chamber, political leaders are admitting it may be a long slog to find a government able to survive a no-confidence vote. FRANCE 24’s International Affairs Editor, Angela Diffley, gives us her analysis.

  1. That Lady is MUCH better on french affairs
She explained that lot very well
(She is all over the place on geopolitics)

  2. Not healthy. The people have spoken, and the party that won the highest placements, are the primary decision makers…..desist with the nonsense, and proceed maturely…there is a country to run and get back on track….grow up!! I'm NY 1962 Toms very British/Brazilian future wife MD…God and Angels are watching, amused by human games, that are powerless

  3. This lady always says things will work out for the Far Right. If Centrists and Popular Front form a coalition govt how exactly would a minority vote of no confidence ‘being the government down’

  4. The left kinda dropped the ball, oops we won. Not having a strong coalition and a charismatic pm choice to put forward confidently is a bit embarrassing (speaking as a person who’s much more far left than even the lfi)

  5. What a nonsense.
On the right Macron is closer to the right side border of the spectrum than Mélenchon is on the left side to the left side border of the spectrum, so if Mélenchon is considered "far left", then what is Macron?
In the social dimension all the right wingers are high up in the authoritarian half with LePen being the highest up, while Mélenchon is barely below the center of the spectrum, what's "far" about that?
This is nothing more than misleading propaganda and the French people are looking straight through it, which is why the ones who want an authoritarian government vote for LePen and the ones who want a left government vote for Mélenchon.
Macron is the loser no matter what, he's just delaying things by holding on to a lost cause.

  6. When it looked like the National Rally would win, commentators mused that perhaps the plan was to let them have power for a couple of years. Then, if problems weren't all solved, voters would then reject them. Looks like the left is now in that position.

  7. How does the RN look responsible and respectful with comments like "we will topple any government with the far left in it?"
