We do not treat sexual crime and rape in the uk even close to harshly enough. This sentencing is an absolute joke.

Not that it makes much difference, but the title has now been changed, presumably because it wasn’t correct. It now says:

Which I think means that the game of the girl isn’t exactly known, rather than that the abuse went on for two years.
But the rest of the article is quite unclear and seems contradictory. You would think with a case as serious as this the paper would try to get the story straight.

This doesn’t make sense.
If the girl was abused by Woods-Broady as a 13 year old in October 2022 then earliest she could have been born is October 2, 2008. That means she’d be 13 on October 1st and turn 14 on October 2nd.
If the crimes ceased in March 2023, she couldn’t have been abused by Darcy Woods-Broady between 13 and 15. It’s impossible. So, I’m not clear where they’ve got this from.

That makes more sense.
So, this is a case of a 19 year old having sexual contact with a 15 year old. Illegal, yes. Wrong, yes. Still, it’s not exactly Jimmy Saville.
It’s not clear from the articles why the crimes only took place in a five month period. It may be that the contact didn’t cease but that the girl turned 16 in March 2023.
It’s possible based on (the most favourable) maths that this could’ve involved parties born in August 2003 and March 2007.
In other words (again, using the most favourable possible maths) teenagers three and half years apart in age.
Good job she didn’t ‘gesticulate and shout at police officers’, for which Steven Mailen was jailed for 26 months on Thursday.
How does anyone look at this next to the sentences that have been dished out over the last few days and say we have a fair justice system?

I might be alone in this but I feel like police who break the law should face harsher sentences. They are supposed to be more morally upstanding than the average person and we as the public are supposed to trust them.
