Someone should add up all EU medals to show how superior we are to everyone. Americans are too full of themselves
We should also get a gold medal for Relentless Bragging
<patrick bateman>Impressive. Very nice.</patrick bateman>
Tbf im more impressed by Uzbekistan. 12th with only 13 medals, but 8 of them are gold
And to think that this tally is without the Netherlands premier national sport – air guitar, which has been bizarrely missing from the Olympics since 1876.
The Netherlands isn’t exactly a small country by population.
Australia is more impressive. Almost the same population but way more medals in total.
Indeed, a country so small It just had no other options than a child rapist to represent them in volleyball.
Size of the country has little to do with Olympic success. It’s all about culture and more importantly amount of money put into developing those Olympians, by making available to them the best facilities, best food, best trainers etc.
Netherlands has a good sports culture and they do commit lots of money to sports. So I’m not surprised at all.
That’s really impressive, but NL is only small in terms of the area. Having almost 18 million people makes you kinda big in Europe, and bear in mind that you are super rich so basically anyone who shows some interest in any sports will almost positively have the funds.
What wealth and education does to a country. Totally unexpected.
They did well !5mill.people in nz 10 gold not bad either 😁
Not specifically trying to take anything away from the Netherlands but the olympic medal table is one of the worst scoring systems I’ve ever seen. It should include all medals, maybe weight them and also factor in number of events entered. You can’t conclude anything useful from the current extremely crude ranking method.
It is pretty rich country as well, which is pretty important for a competitive sport culture.
Congrats NL
It was fun to see your fans literally everywhere in Paris, I guess the orange color helps a bit !
Germany finishing worse than the Netherlands is kind of sad. I feel like interest in sports has gone down in the last decades and there is also a lack of funding.
The netherlands have 20 million population. Is it small?
Key factors for countries to create olympians: 1) talent pool, 2) rich enough to identify athletes potential and train them, 3) atheletes are heroes in that country, and if all these criteria is satisfied, it helps to be genetically suited for the sport – think Usain Bolt or Simone biles.
just wanna throw in Hungary here while I can! 19 medals in total and 6 golds from a less than 10M country😌 almost all the governmental support goes to our football for some reason so I’d say it’s pretty good
Dutchies surely are masters of self jerk
People forget that Australia has about the same amount of inhabitants as the Netherlands and Belgium combined.
I think it is funny that America is the fattest country, but also second place in the most competetive sport event
NZ at 11 with a pop of 5mil is pretty banger.
New Zealand is doing pretty well too!
Also the only country to send a pedophile rapist to the Olympics…
Australia has impressed me this year
Small in terms of geographical area, yes. But not small in terms of population or overseas territories. I would argue New Zealand is much more impressive, with a population of just approx 5 million people (versus the NLs 18 mil).
In terms of medals per population, Australia has a really good track record – they’re one true sporting nation!
The olympics aren’t about a country’s size or population but about how well your training facilities and programs are funded.
