> Recently, an ex-army intelligence officer has spoken out after he helped six men escape the Rooneys while he served in a homeless church project in Lincoln. Rev Jeremy Cullimore was placed under police protection for a year while court proceedings took place in 2017.
> “They would arrange for their slaves to fight each other for entertainment. One man had his teeth knocked out when hit by a breeze block,” he told the Sun.
> “I had a conversation with a man who had been stabbed and left by the roadside because they felt he had not served them as well as he might have.”
This is vile. I am at a loss for words!
Don’t think they should be allowed out on the grounds of public safety.
What an awful injustice. This is exactly the kind of entrepeneurial, family-run business this country needs – driving productivity, while striking tough deals on employee remuneration. We can only hope their jail terms don’t impact too badly on GDP, and that the businesses they generously supported with their hard-earned wealth can survive. Furthermore, they no doubt should be thanked for their contribution to the UK fertility rate.
Rooney family – I would like to nominate you for the Gideon Osborne Striver Award.
His prison sentence is shorter than he made those people slave away for? That’s not right.
Travelling families have been doing this for decades. They usually target vulnerable people, drug addicts etc. This will just be one publicised case of many that go undetected.
“It’s just part of their culture.”
No really. When a load of them got busted around here for the same thing that was actually one of the arguments.
This is one of the most depressing things I have read on Reddit. You’d have to be a vile, wretched person to do something like that to another human being, especially one’s so vulnerable. I don’t think anyone who would enslave someone under such horrible conditions should ever see the outside of a prison.
