Rent subsidies paid by the state drove the vast majority of revenue growth at Ires Reit, Ireland’s largest landlord, in 2021. A tenth of Ires REIT’s revenues are now coming from the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP)

  1. Wow, what a coincidence, it’s just amazing really isn’t it.

Anyway, let’s just quickly forget it and move on to the next news cycle.

  2. So, what your saying is that IRES REIT are willing to accept HAP, becuase few private landlords are willing to.

This is actually why it’s a good thing to have professional landlords invovled instead of private individuals. They are also more likely to follow the laws relating to limits on increases.

The downsides I can see though, is that they are more likely to be willing to leave their properties vacant rather than take reduced rents, and the current government are unwilling to punish that behaviour.

Companies are allowed to make profits, if that’s the point you’re trying to make.

  3. Why do I get the feeling the same people would be outraged if:

    1. REITS were exempt from the legal requirement to accept HAP tenants, or

2 REITS refused to let to HAP tenants
