Russia steps up response to Ukrainian incursion of Kursk region | DW News

Russia is stepping up its response to a Ukrainian incursion – vowing a tough reaction to the offensive on its own soil.

Russia’s Defense Ministry released images of what it says are strikes on a Ukrainian tank and drone in the Kursk region. The Russian army says it has repelled attacks near two villages.

Meanwhile, Russian state media are reporting more than 76,000 people have been evacuated from border areas. With the incursion now into its 6th day, the local governor says 13 people were injured after Ukrainian drones and missiles were shot down over the Kursk region.

For more on this, we talk to Marina Miron at the War Studies Department at King’s College London.

  1. Yeah, the allied bombing of civilians in Germany just prolonged the war, and made everyone more determined. This is risking to unify the Russian public towards an external threat, and build a bigger acceptance for a second mobilization, which would be really bad for Ukraine, as they are short on manpower as it is, and have a smaller population. Russia can also keep their mobniks in war, forever it seems, which might be harder for a democracy, like Ukraine. Usually a dictator wants to have an external threat, to the extent the sometimes they make one up, if there is no one naturally, like in Albania with Enver Hoxha.

  2. They would be even able to march on moscow we've seen it last year. But I guess its not in the interest. It may be a big plot. A big Show. They may be even Work together.

  3. Ukraine is winning the war in the western media only like DW, CNN, BBC etc. While the entire world supports Russia only the west (Europe, United States, Japan, New Zealand & Australia) Support Ukraine

  4. The bully isn’t happy because of the Ukrainians “ Special Operation”? He should not be surprise.

  5. these right wings youtube news networks….I hate watching, but I gotta see the video footage that is availible. DW and SKYnews are anti AMerican….souly because of how anti democrat and pro trump they are..that makes them anti american..considering they have this whole plan to re write or just throw away our constitution. Luckily Americans have wised up…and are fading away from the fool.

  6. It's too bad more people are being affected by this War. I'm just happy it's the Russian side of the border this time. Yes! Now maybe they'll realize the Russian guy up top is to blame but I doubt it.

  7. Ok.
So Ukraine found a weak spot.
    Taken weak spot.
    Russians moved most people out.
Ukraine near nuclear power station but didn't take it.
Russia's public calls for a Ukrainian city to fall and end war.
Russia government does not want to due the crazy high lives lost on full attack but the public now wants this….
    The war is over.

  8. Soon as russia sends masses of hardware and men , Ukraine will pull out and focus on crimea ,bridge . What i would do

  9. Civilians were wounded by falling debris of shot down missiles and drones, BUT artillery, drones and missiles that went through air defenses also hit civilians. But DW chose to only talk about the debris of shot down missiles and drones.

When Russia does it, they only talk about the direct hits, not the falling debris.

  10. Comical how the Kremlin is crying in outrage about something they’ve been doing to Ukraine for the part couple of years. HA!

  11. This move have many advantages, and even if they will later return back to Ukraine, they have reached lasting political and moral boosting advantages anyway, they have shown the weakness and incompetens of russias border forces, they have humiliated the russian leadership, they have shown the world and ordinary russian residents that their goverment cant, and wont, protect them…its a win win situation however this will play out..

  12. This is very historic – Ukraine has done something impossible that not even Germany and France were able to accomplish – successfully invade Russia.
Kursk is now part of Ukraine!
