    Unless, the Russians blow up the Kursk NPP to prevent it falling into nazi hands . . . genius! /s

  7. They are terrorists, simple as that, whenever they lose on the battlefield they threaten to contaminate Ukraine with radiation and destroy the lives of millions of innocent people

  8. Russian sides are saying Ukraine stuck the plant.

    “Cooling systems at the Zaporozhye NPP caught fire after being shelled by Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Zaporozhye region, stated Governor Balitsky.”

  10. Well, the Russians said that they have already annexed the oblast, so technically they’re just setting their own nuke plant on fire.

    Not sure how shooting yourself in your own foot is meant to be intimidating.

    It seemed almost obvious that Russia would use the ZNPP as a bargaining chip in the event of a turning point in the war.

  14. A few things 1) The reactors to the best of my knowledge are all in cold shutdown. The Russians would need to do something insane to cause any sort of radiological leak.. IE very much on purpose. 2) NATO and the US already telegraphed if they cause a issue at that plant they can expect NATO to get directly involved and end the war in Ukraine, which NATO could likely do in a few weeks.

    As with everything this is a bluf/posturing from Russia.

  18. Russia had to do burnt earth tactics to stop the last 2 invasions I wouldn’t put it past them to do this.

  19. How are you going to threaten to tank a nuclear facility, where the wind will drift into Russia and the Black Sea/Azov, but won’t use a tactical nuke? Putin is so weird.

  20. It’s an empty stack… they are burning TIRES in it to attempt to create panic, the plant is certainly at risk but is at no more risk than it has been since the Russians occupied it

  21. for anyone worried, the reactors were shut down a year ago and i think they got their fuel removed already, so the risk *should* be minimal

  23. I’ve been in a cooling tower before. There shouldn’t be anything that burns there. They put something there to burn
