Climate Change Could Trigger Mass Migration to Earth’s Poles

5. We’ve kept Antarctica “pristine” – I used that word advisedly – so that when it all melts, we can go live there…All 8 billion of us with our plastic straws.

8. By the time the mid-latitudes are uncomfortable enough for people to want to move, the weather will no longer support farming. There will be crop failures at a massive scale. Think of the dust bowl of the 1930s, except permanent.

   You can’t grow crops at the poles, there’s no topsoil.

9. I have written on this. It’s called “Polar Amplification” and was predicted in the very first General Climate Models back in 1974.

   In 1998 there was a BIG effort made by GISS to quantify the degree of Polar Amplification, particularly “Arctic Amplification” which is how it’s generally referred to today. This was part of an attempt to explain the fossils of alligators and palm trees around the Arctic Ocean during the PETM.

   The Moderates predicted Arctic Amplification would be “less than double” the amount of equatorial warming.

   The Alarmists predicted around 4x times equatorial warming.

   The GISS in 1998 went with the “less than double” guestimate. THEY WERE WRONG.

   The High Arctic has warmed +4°C since 1979. Parts of Siberia have warmed +7°C.

   Because that’s HOW alligators and palm trees could live “year round” next to an Arctic Ocean that “never froze”, even in winter. With a Climate like modern Miami’s.

   Warming doesn’t happen evenly.

   HEAT BUILDS UP AT THE POLES.

   The Fossil record tells us that +4°C warming at the Equator will result in +20°C warming at the NP and +10°C warming at the SP.

   The Latitudinal Equator to Pole Temperature Gradient or LETPTG will shrink from roughly 45°C for the Northern Hemisphere to about 25°C. While this happens the Boreal Forests will BURN completely away by 2050.

   Then the Permafrost will really start melting and releasing CH4 plus CO2 from 750,000 years of decaying organic materials.

   That’s what’s going to happen over the rest of this century. It’s “inevitable” now.

10. Will. Not could. Almost everything between the 34th parallels will be uninhabitable no matter how fast we change. That’s already baked in.

    It will be harsh between the 36th parallels as well.
