That is a cooling tower, now for those who have never been inside one it is basically a big chimney and at the bottom of this chimney there is a pond, water sprays into the pond and the hot air rises drawing cold air in the bottom which is a lattice of beams, the cold air cooled the water which is pumped round the system again. Now I’m not a nuclear scientist so I’m not sure how they have managed to set fire to the pond water but in typical drunk Russian fashion it looks like they set fire to tyres in the cooling tower which to a drunk Russian probably seemed like a good idea at the time but if they damage the infrastructure and can’t cool the reactor sufficiently a lot of drunk Russians are going to suffer.
Car tyres have been ignited in a cooling tower, this is a very deliberate act this couldn’t have happened by accident. Possibly due to the power station being nuclear the commander may have thought if I fake a nuclear incident it may stop his troops from being attacked.
