I'm from southern part of the India, and I'm coming to you with some of my travel plan doubts. I'm hoping some of you could help me with this.
Myself and my wife (and one more couple) are planning a trip to Nordic region later in the year – November first week to be specific 1st – 7th, please share any general tips and tricks for the road trip.

So, we have a plan to hire a Car and then do road trip across 3 countries => Tromso -> Alta -> Karasjok -> Rovaniemi (Finland) -> Kiruan (Sweden) -> Tromso (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Sx5GQKQcoDyEcoJHA)

I have read and already started to prepare for the winter driving condition, 2 of us are very good drivers back in our country and do have little experience with winter condition driving. We have decide to do this based on our friend's experience who did the exact same route last year in the early November. And I know whether plays a big part in such long road trips.

So if the weather intensifies and we are not able to continue, we are ready to cut short the road trip and take public transport and change our destination accordingly.

So here are my doubts, that I hope to get answers on (and ofcourse any other general suggestions)

  1. What type of car we should go for, like based on road conditions, width, etc? — I'm kind of looking for a compact SUV or a SUV like VW Tiguan or Toyota Yaris/RAV with winterproof tires and other tools.
  2. Does Manual or Auto matters? Does electric or fuel car matters?
  3. Hiring a car in Norway and travelling across the country is allowed? I will be carrying a international driving license along with my DL.
  4. Are the gas stations available through out the route or highways if we opt for petrol car? or we should fill up the tank in the cities we visit.
  5. How do we manage the toll charges? I have read autopass is good, but can I pay from my credit card, as we will only be in Europe for 15 days and then return back to home country. Or I can set some amount like prepaid recharge?
  6. Does auto pass works in multiple countries? Like we will be visiting Finland and Sweden too.
  7. One of our main desire is to chase AURORA. How should we prepare for this?

Or any general suggestion you would know for a trip like this?
