7. My parents have just boarded a 13 hour flight, and I can’t get that video out of my head. Didn’t realise exactly what it was when it first came up on my reddit feed. It was the first time I’d checked Reddit in a week because of being on vacation . I wish I hadn’t seen it. Stunning is absolutely a terrible word here.

19. The first time I learned about this was a post on r/damnthasinteresting. I watched the plane swoop back and forth, only because I thought the video would end with the pilot somehow finding a way…

    Then the camera panned, and black smoke was billowing. I can’t imagine. Damn.

21. Very tragic, horrifying and sad. Condolences to the families. A lot of us have been on planes and faced some turbulence, and just can’t imagine going that experience. Just dead silence, everyone praying and thinking about their loved ones back home… wishing they can somehow say their peace and how much they love them.

    I can’t stress enough how lucky the people on the ground were. Just a few meters *in any direction* and this thing would’ve hit a house. My god.

    Also, Brazilian news says the plane had recently undergone maintenance due to structural damage.
