  3. I do hope this is part of some larger operation, where Russia pulls back troops from other border regions and Ukraine is able to recapture more of its own territory, whilst simultaneously bogging down the Russians!

    Go steady and safe. Secure 1000km2, 2000km2 and then open peace negotiations based on the military reality.

    Throw in some sham elections, separists government and a parade in Kyiv to celebrate the incorportaions of the liberated states.

  22. I do wonder where this is going long term. Is this part of a tactic to weaken Putin’s validity with his own citizens? If so, how much does this matter in a country controlled by the intelligence services? Does UA have the resources necessary to push down into occupied regions behind Russian forces?

    A lot of things are in play right now. F16s are showing up. Ukraine is gaining experience with them, hopefully learning how to integrate them operationally into combined arms tactics without loosing too many aircraft in the process. The US election is under three months away, and it’s still a statistical tie but the outcome won’t really impact US support for Ukraine (or NATO) until after the January inauguration.
