When I was 17 I got the old family car that my folks had saved in the garage for a couple of years for me when my dad got a company car. It was a burgundy/maroon Volvo 340GL 1988 reg.
I’d had my mitts on it for 2 weeks before I aquaplaned into a lamppost, which given the tank like nature of the Volvo, got destroyed. Police were called, folks had to come and pick me up, and we got charged by council about £400 for the lamp post.
Nearly 30 years later, and if I’m giving her a lift , every time we pass that junction she makes a snide comment…
