Leon Goretzka has been aware of his limited role in the coming season for 8 weeks, but the midfielder believes he can take on the competition and prevail.
Last summer there were also discussions over Goretzka, but in the end he was in the starting lineup on the first matchday. As of now, he hasn't shown any intention to leave. Bayern will not force him out, but Goretzka was transparently and honestly informed of the club's assessment.
It is now up to the player to decide whether he wants to move, especially since he wants to be called up to the national team again. Financially, however, it will be tough for him to get a contract at another club as big as the one he currently has at Bayern [@kicker]

Take on the competetion
He’ll prevail in picking up his check regardless.
No problem with his decision at all. Paulinia needs time to blend in and even if he excels 100% from day one, our midfield deserves a strong sub. It would be wrong to force him out before making a cut on the wingers position both from head count and from salary stand of points.
If he can play in the same form he had after being cut from the national team, I don’t see why not let him stay.
…while getting paid an amount, no one else would pay
I’d use him as an extra CB in case one of the regular starters gets injured. I highly doubt he’s seeing midfield anytime soon though.
Goretzka will be fine. He will fight and give his all. Lord knows we will need the depth anyway with how much the injury gods hate us
His 36M from the next 2 seasons can prevail
I’d do the same. There’s no way I’d throw away 20mil over 2 years just because my employer realized they overpaid me
All the snide comments about his salary… His salary is guaranteed as long as he is a Bayern player, so it goes without saying he will pick up his monthly cheques.
It’s not as if he was on the verge of a transfer away and it fell apart over salary issues.
If I were a coach I‘d let him play CB vs some of the lower teams. He was quite good when ha had to play there
News about Goretzka are always phrased in a way that make him look like the most arrogant prick around.
If Palhinha and Pavlo stay healthy, Kimmich will always be the better choice at 8 with his passing and playmaking ability. Goretzka, if he stays, will be a regular last-20-minute choice probably. If he wants to stay, I’m okay with it. He got a contract. But if he expects to play the same role as last season, he’s probably wrong.
Hope they open a state of the art super-gym with complementary steroids and a hair transplant clinic in Madrid so bro goes there
