On the upside the streets in Brussels looked cleaner today! Except for the Brabantwijk off course.
It’s all on the floodline. Might just as well be Barry’s or Pierre’s garbage. That the estuarine circulation is going counterclockwise in that UK-FR-BE funnel has a big impact on where the garbage is deposited.
Driving to a Dutch beach hardly takes more time for Belgians. And we have a lot more of it. And a lot of cleaner options. A lot of your beach sand is imported sand from the Netherlands anyway.
And let’s not forget about the competition angle with the PIGS: In the large garbage category North Sea coast water is four times cleaner than Mediterranean coast water because it mixes with water from the Atlantic much faster. For most invisible pollutants the North Sea scores even better.
