Don’t think I ever hated a transfer as much as this one. Thiago comes close, but he at least was with us for a long time and achieved everything with us. Letting de Ligt go after just two years seems like such a waste.
Who knows, maybe we can get him back someday.

De Ligt has the potential to be an amazing defender in a few years. He might not be the fastest or whatever, but he had the vision and attitude to coordinate a backline already.

As a friendly northern swamp neighbor myself, I was not a fan originally of De Ligt joining us. He’d had a rough start with the national team a few years back. But here he absolutely changed my mind. His heart, soul, and old-fashioned defending have been one of the few bright spots for me these last two subpar and firing-filled, frustrating seasons. Feels so weird…he was forced out before Kompany even got to take a look at him. Farewell, Matthijs! Thank you for the seasons and the lovely goodbye message.
God damn it. Now we are stuck with Upa? I get that mistakes happen but this dude fcked us so many times and it hasnt gotten any better. Id choose Ligt every day over Upa. What even Kompany is cooking? Some kind of a brother thing?
