Really should be a church, sad to see so many Christian cities and landmarks fall to ☪️
makes sense with the insane earthquake bound to happen any year now
It was built by grecoroman christians 1500 years ago. Largest dome ever constructed by that time.
The turks already destroyed its purpose as a church and destroyed the mosaics.
It is doubtful the turkish state has the technical ability to rebuild it, in case of a collapse.
Can’t strengthen it now instead of waiting for it to fall?
That’s a very sensible idea; I hope many more historic buildings are recorded in the same way.
Leave it to the Turks to turn one of the most famous churches on earth into a mosque. If it collapses it serves them right
Hagia Sophia should become a museum again. Turning such an incredible 1500 year old landmark into a mosque is disrespectful and horrible on so many levels.
So a blueprint?
France just outsorced that job to Ubisoft
It already fell when the ottomans took Constantinople…
Too many weirdos use this sub, it’s a mosque now, yes once upon time it was a church, it’s still an iconic and well preserved building.
I hope they would also put the digital somewhere on the web so we can visit it in case if we can’t go there.
Hope they also share it with the wider public. Important to have multiple back-ups at multiple institutions for such an important building. That said, any reconstruction will be a different building. Hagia Sophia is like a gothic cathedral in this sense. Hard to replicate 1000 years of patchwork and all the individual details.
It is an amazing example of Greek architecture.
