A bit from the commentary:
> The image of a downtrodden wife rebelling against her MAGA husband by voting for Harris resonates for symbolic reasons. Harris has only been the Democratic nominee for a few weeks, yet this election feels more shaped by questions of gender and power than any in the nation’s history. The GOP ticket is led by a sexual predator who a jury found “‘raped’ [journalist E. Jean Carroll] as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,'” the judge in the case wrote. His running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, has called for a national abortion ban, wrote the forward to a book that denounced contraception for making pregnancy “seem like an optional and not natural result of having sex,” and repeatedly called women who haven’t given birth “sociopathic” and “childless cat ladies.”
>
> Meanwhile, the Democratic ticket is led by a woman who chose “Freedom” by Beyoncé as her campaign song, and has dispensed with the mealy-mouthed language about abortion rights to declare she stands for “the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body.” Her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, her running mate, has decried “weird” MAGA Republicans of the “he-man woman haters’ club.”

> There’s no doubt that the Trump campaign and the larger MAGA movement are increasingly pushing a message of bringing women to men’s heel by force. Trump and Vance know that abortion bans are unpopular, so they’re busy trying to conceal their anti-choice radicalism with mealy-mouthed claims that they want to “leave it to the states.” Yet Vance, who has denounced no-fault divorce laws and describes it merely as “inconvenient” to force rape victims to give birth, keeps giving the game away. Close Trump ally Charlie Kirk, who is allegedly organizing the voter turnout effort, declared that birth control “screws up women’s brains.” Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who Trump endorsed in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race, declared women should be “led by men,” and said, “I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote.”
Wow! Just when I thought the MAGA men could not go deeper into the cave, they manage to find a way. God forbid my little woman has her own opinions. Maybe they would like us to not have access to checking accounts and credit cards. Perhaps we should not be allowed to go outside unless we are accompanied by an adult male. Heck, why are we even allowed to vote? 🤬
Dear wives of America. If you’re afraid to tell your Husband who you are voting for, you may need to get a divorce. You are in a dangerous fucking relationship.
Time to bust out a “divorce your Republican husband” bumper sticker
Why the fuck would any woman vote for having less rights?
And why the fuck would any woman marry/be married to a Trump supporter?
If there was ever a time you *need* to vote, it would be when you’re afraid someone else will find out *how* you voted.
This is why the GOP is suddenly in favor of voting by mail. No curtain to protect the private vote.
If you ever wonder why photographing your ballot and/or taking a selfie while voting are illegal, think of this story.
In Texas, you are only identified as D or R when you vote in the primary. In the general, you can vote either or both. They don’t show which one you voted for…
MAGA men are the weakest men around .. unsure of who they really are .. snowflakes ❄️
If you’re GOP, he’ll tell you who to vote for; you have no rights as a “breeder device”/ “second class kitchen worker” under the GOP.
LOL I turned my wife into a democrat who is now more liberal than me.
EDIT: When we got married, she was not political at all, but had been raised GOP. All I did was help her learn about the difference in the parties and that it’s ok to be outspoken for what is right.
If you have to question secretly voting on the sly because your husband would be upset, you have much bigger problems. I will never understand how seemingly intelligent, educated women can vote against their own interests. And yet, that mindset is so prevalent here in the southern red states. Bible Belt submissive Christianity.
This is my one reservation about voting by mail. Because I know there are husbands sitting at the kitchen table filling out both ballots and making their wives sign one.
Stay focused, optimistic, positive, happy and confident. You have every right to be hopeful and excited about this election. But, when it’s time to vote, remember that voting for Harris won’t be enough. If you truly wish to see change in the USA, Kamala Harris will need a democratic House and Senate and this can only happen with your vote.
Ultimately, it is your choice who you vote into office. But if you vote for republicans, then don’t act shocked when nothing changes, no legislation passes, progress is obstructed, or when they put party over country or when they put their interests ahead of YOURS, the American people.
Divorce your Republican husband. Dump your libertarian boyfriend. If they are good men who care about people they will not advocate for policies that harm women, children, seniors, disabled people, and the planet. See the light or sleep alone
If you honestly fear your husband’s reaction to knowing who you vote for, you have much bigger problems and need to get away fast.
If you are asking that question, divorce your husband.
Religious conservatives do love their domestic violence.
Oh my gosh – give yourselves AGENCY! Be free! Think for yourselves!!! Vote like it matters, like YOU matter!
If anyone is wondering, the answer is no
It’s easy to forget that domestic terrorists can also be spousal terrorists.
“As a poll worker, I have had to deal with husbands and fathers who want to join their wives or daughters in the voting booth to ‘make sure they vote the right way.'”
men like that should be in prison. not because it’s illegal to do that, but because they’re pieces of shit.
This is one of the big issues with places that do all in mail in ballots.
(They were also worried about places like union halls all having to vote together as well)
Jesus Fuckin’ Christ…what a thought.
Let’s frame it this way. If Trump wins, gone are no fault divorces, freedom to make medical choices, women’s votes, birth control, etc.
If you’re afraid of your husband finding out you voted for Harris, what will you be afraid of if you DON’T vote for Harris and your rights are systematically stripped away.
There is a classic WSJ “Pepper…and Salt” cartoon where the frantically busy housewife bursts out to say “and another thing, All those years I told you I voted Republican,…I lied!” Hope there are more of you out there. Stay strong!
If that’s a concern you should reevaluate your marriage
Or why am I with someone I fear?
Nothing says family values like dominating your spouses brain entirely! The fucking perverse sick soup that is the conservative mind is terrifying some times. Exactly how many American women are domestic hostages in conservative households?
I’m writing “get out the vote” postcards this year. The most effective message recommended is:
Hi, _____!
Thank you for being a voter!
Who you vote for is private, but whether you vote is public record.
Please vote in the Tues Nov 5 election!
This post gives me more insight into why this message works.
If you are afraid of your husband finding out you won’t vote for Trump do not do mail in voting because he will fill your ballot out for you
A dark side of mail in ballots is that there are households where the husband fills out his wife’s ballot
THIS is a prime example of why Kamala Harris MUST win. America approaches Gilead status at breakneck speed.
The bigger question is… Can I find out who my husband is voting for!
My mom, probably around 90 years old at the time, started to show signs of Alzheimer’s and her “filter” started to malfunction. One way she did this was to tell myself and my three siblings, things she normally never would. One day when I was visiting, she blurted out, “Your father always told me who to vote for. But I’d get inside the voting booth and vote for the other person. I wanted to cancel his vote out,” she ended with a small chuckle. It got me wondering how often that happened.
Imagine being married to a person that makes you afraid enough to jump through all of these hoops just to ensure that you won’t be abused once he finds out.
That’s not a good life. That’s emotional abuse. Anyone who thinks they need to do the same should just get a divorce and be done with all of that nonsense. You deserve better than to have to live with someone who actively votes for your rights to be taken away.
If you have to hide that you aren’t voting for Trump then you should just leave him. I cannot FATHOM controlling how my wife thinks (and I would abhor doing so. I’ve raised a child I thought to think on his own and I married an incredibly intellectual, outspoken, adult woman with her own mind and voice.).
This is fucked up.
Ladies if you have to ask this question you should get a divorce.
Who cares. He doesn’t own you… or your vote.
No..he can’t find out how you voted unless you tell him.
Divorce your abusive Republican husband.
So, so many insecure man babies out there acting like the alpha dog of a wolf pack, snarling and spitting and gritting their teeth to assert dominance, driving their full-size Dodge pickup down the road using only their right arm at 10:00 just like the commercial showed them…
telling their wives how to vote based on some random AI-generated misinfo memes they bought hook, line and sinker at face value on Facebook…
You know you can just lie right?
That whole question breaks my heart. It’s no one but your own business who you vote for.
I used to know a family of young women whose father gave them instructions on who to vote for. I pointed out that they could lie, because it’s their vote, not his.
