  1. I’ve noticed over the last few years that wherever pro-American governments are elected, especially in new EU countries, democracy, transparency and media freedom indices plummet.

Wherever Americans put their allies in power democracy follows what’s happening in America.

    Scary.

  2. Just checked Wikipedia’s source and UK has their worst score since 2006. Good. Looks like Brexit help them a lot /s

  3. Slovenia staying at zero?!? This year we got warnings from the EU regarding our wrongdoings in democratic processes, our PM has instated his allies on all leading positions (police, state owned companies etc.), many ministers are accused of corruption, the government wants to censor the media, lawsuits from the leading party of you publicly offend them… how’s this democratic?!?

  4. I was looking on the right side for a while trying to find Albania. Didn’t expect It to be on the left side, but that’s nice! Looks like the Balkans are overall improving.

  5. Wonder how much of this is due to the coronavirus restrictions. Having the government restrict so many freedoms of the people isn’t exactly democratic.

  6. The Democracy Index isn’t accurate, the data isn’t public neither are the “experts” who claim this is true

  7. Lol Italy has a better result than UK what a joke. In Italy there isn’t even a opposition at the moment (basically only the fascist party FdI isn’t supporting Draghi). The parliament elected the same President for the second mandate when that role was supposed to be held only for one mandate. No protests are allowed in Italy and students in Turin were beaten by the police for protesting. Mobility on the national territory has been harshly restricted multiple times during the pandemic at the certain point people were confined in towns of 200 people. Lol what democracy is left in the country? So happy I left.

  8. Haha is this some kind of joke? Really, Serbia, democracy. I mean if you find ten Serbians here at Reddit who will say Serbia is democracy countrie I will buy you a drink.

Guys really I love my countrie, I love nature, I love our humor, I love food in Serbia, I like our sportsmans and we are happy when they win in something. Yes we had mistakes in history, we cause someones pain, we had pretty awful decisions in history, and also there are still a lot of nationalistic, chauvinistic jerks for what normal people here aren’t proud of unfortunatelly. But there are also a lot of normal, calm, smart people who wants just to work, be paid for that, and live normal life in piece. I guess there are even more good people in here than those others just like with everything what is bad it is louder then the rest.

But really Serbia and democracy really can’t go in the same sentence. I mean literally some people can loose their jobs if they doesn’t vote for leading party. Not just that but there are tons of people who are blackmailed to find another 4,5,6 people who will vote for leading party and on top of all that they need to photo their ID with proof they voted for leading party. Can I imagine that shit going in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France… Absolutely not. That is crazy man.

I would love for Serbia one day to become at least something near what democracy should like, but unfortunatelly that day isn’t near.

  9. So … Hypothetical: if an imaginary country used to publicly flog people for wearing the wrong lipstick and then decided to flog them in secrecy: what would this chart show?
