The country’s security service released a video showing what it says is the capture of more than 100 Russian soldiers. President Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine took control of the town Sudzha.

  1. 1:30 to the end: "… The Pentagon is still looking for guidance from Ukraine about its intentions for the Kursk region ."

Besides to rattle the Russians and disrupt the Russian military's ability to launch strikes on Ukrainian territory from the Kursk region, I don't think the Ukrainian government had clear, definitive objectives when it first gambled on an incursion into Russian territory. They are likely still trying to figure out how to make the best of the situation as it unfolds.

Earlier this week, a Ukrainian government official said that Ukraine had no interest in occupying Russian territory. However, today, the BBC reported that the Ukrainian military has established a military administrative office in Kursk to maintain " law and order " and " meet the immediate needs of the population " in the area. These were the very words of Ukraine's top military commander. "Maintain law and order"?? That sounds like occupation of the territory to me. Regardless of what Ukraine is going to do with the Russian territory it currently controls, it appears that it plans to continue the ground operation in Russia at least for the immediate and near term.

  2. I stopped listening when the talking head said "The US has been Ukraine's biggest supporter…" What a load of CRAP!! PROPAGANDA!! My government has dealyed so long that this has become a new state of warfare. If "my" government had been ukraine's biggest supporter this would be over already. What a bunch of CRAP!!! Look, Denmark sent ALL OF ITS ARTILLERY!!! EVERYTHING IT HAD!!! Most Eurpoean countries have proportionally and morally supported Ukraine far more than the US – furthermore, here in the US is still a big debate on the streets about whether "we should even care". All I can say to my fellow Americans is "Pourqoui mourir pour Danzig?" (Why die for Danzig – a slogan in France which de-emphasized the importance of protecting fellow european nations from the Nazi exapnsion.)

    Heroyam salva!

  3. 21 miles of tactically worthless land; mostly open fields and biggest town Sudzha taken only 5000 pop. Now they are surrounded, no more easy "thunder runs" with armored cars into empty towns to take selfies. Everywhere they go forward now is a fight. For what purpose? In Donbass, the six month steamrolling of AFU continues unabated, with RU going for the logistic jugular (Pokrovsk) of the entire area, having taken or about to take 3 cities of 10K, 30K, and 70K population each. If they get Pokrovsk, that is cities of size numbering over 170,000 people lost because Napolensky sent his brand new NATO army into Kursk to get a town of 5,000…….."

  4. Surprised Biden didn't get the scoop? Why should Zelenski tell Biden. All Biden did is hold Ukraine down and let Russia pummels it. Biden is the worst commander-in-chief ever. His withdrawal from Afghanistan was a total shitshow. His actions wrt Gaza is enabling war crimes. His Ukraine strategy is a long soft surrender to Putin. Biden's failures as commander-in-chief is worthy of court martial

  5. I have heard 1,000 square miles; I've heard
40 miles, and now I am hearing "21" miles?
Maybe Kursk ends up being some village?

  6. Putin keeps getting spanked by Ukraine. I hope Putin is proud of how his unhinged desire to create an empire has led to the destruction of Russia's military and economy. What a feeble clown Putin is.

  7. Capturing Russian territory is unwise move by Ukraine. Pushing Putin into the corner by invading Russia breaching Russian nuclear deterrence carries big risk. It looks like west is sleepwalking into world war.

  8. To complicate matters further for Kiev, at least six Ukrainian brigades that previously fought near Kharkov, Sumy, Chasov Yar and Toretsk were redirected to participate in the Kursk aggression, according to FT. The newspaper cited Ukrainian soldiers' worries about leaving positions in Donbass to take part in the Kursk gamble. The surge appears to be short-lived and most likely artificial and made-up by the U.S. corporate press. The corporate-owned press, including Fox, has lost all credibility which explains their financial losses and the rise of Twitter spaces, Tucker Carlson and alternative truth-tellers that thrive. Traditional actors are resolved to sell fiction as fact.

The Russian military destroyed one of Ukraine’s remaining British-made Challenger 2 main battle tanks in the Kursk direction. The tank, which belonged to Ukraine’s elite 82nd Air Assault Brigade, was destroyed by the Russian Sever Group of Force to the south of the settlement of Sheptukhovka with a Lancet loitering munition, according to video footage that first surfaced online on August 11. The footage shows the tank, which was hidden under trees, bursting into a ball of fire after being hit by the loitering munition.

The Russian military has destroyed an American-made M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers of Kiev forces

in the Kursk direction using an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile. Video footage of the strike was released by Russian media on August 15. The footage shows the launcher firing two rockets before fleeing to hide in a forested area to the southeast of the settlement of Marine in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk. The launcher is then struck by an Iskander-M.

The pinpoint missile strike destroyed the launcher, rockets prepared for reload as well as two security vehicles which were guarding the hideout.

Attacks were thwarted when the group launched strikes against the 82nd Air Assault Brigade south of Kremyanoye and of the 80th Air Assault Brigade west of the settlement Russkaya Konopelka. Ukrainian losses amounted to 90 troops, five American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and six armored fighting vehicles.

The Sever Group of Forces also routed the Ukrainian formations and restored the control over the settlement of Krupets.

In addition, a series of strikes by warplanes and drones foiled Ukrainian attempts to break through to the Russian territory close to the settlements of Varvarovka, Safonovka, Sheptukhovka, Kauchuk, Alekseyevskoye and Matveyevka.

Other strikes hit gatherings of the 22nd, 61st mechanized, 92nd assault brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade, the 1st National Guard Brigade and the 129th Territorial Defence Brigade close to the settlements of Olgovka, Snagost, Pogrebki, Mirnoye, Aleshenka, Uspenovka and Yuzhnoye.

A strike with an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile destroyed a convoy of 15 fuel supply vehicles close to the settlement of Lubny in the neighboring Ukrainian region of Sumy.

Ukrainian reserves, ammunition and supply depots close to the settlements of Yunakovka, Khoteni and Kondratovka in Sumy were also struck.

Video footage was released showing recent Russian air and artillery strikes that hit Ukrainian formations in Kursk.

So far, Kiev forces have taken heavy losses while attempting to hold onto the territory they managed to occupy in Kursk. Still, the Russian military was not distracted in other directions, where it continues to advance.

Russian troops will continue to press the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and advance. There are reports that they have driven the UAF out of two main UAF fortified areas on the eastern approaches to Toretsk – the mines (and accordingly waste heaps) Severnaya and Artem.

A big loss for the UAF. These were some of their most important strongholds in the Torets agglomeration.

Pokrovsk Direction: Breakthrough of the Russian Armed Forces towards Hrodivka, Battles on the Approaches to Novohrodivka, and Worsening Operational Crisis of the UAF.

Situation as of 9:00 PM on August 15, 2024

In addition to the Oleksandro-Kalinovo direction, the deplorable situation of the Ukrainian formations is also unfolding in the Pokrovsk sector, where over the past few days the Russian troops have been able to significantly expand the zone of control. At the moment, the UAF is preparing to defend the area of Hrodivka — Novohrodivka.

Both of these settlements are the last major defense lines of the UAF before Pokrovsk — one of the key transport hubs of the "Donbas" grouping of the UAF.

On the northern flank, the Russian troops are engaged in battles on the approaches to Novotoretske, where there is a crossing over the Kazennyy Torets River. Earlier, the Russian Armed Forces liberated Ivanovka and Lysychne, which allowed them to reach the outskirts of the settlement, overcoming several defensive lines of the UAF.

RBC Ukraine – Russia destroys logistics infrastructure facility in Kharkiv region.

Today, Russia continued to strike in the Kharkiv region. Russian troops destroyed a logistics facility and damaged a residential building, according to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.

A Ukrainian logistics infrastructure facility was destroyed in the village of Osynove, Kupiansk district. The Russians also shelled the village of Kozacha Lopan in the Derhachiv community with artillery.

Fighting continues in the Kharkiv sector, but the operational situation remains tense. The Russian Armed Forces (RAF) continue to try to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops by shelling their positions and attacking civilian objects in the communities. The TV channel Kharkiv reported that the RAF are regrouping their units to continue the assault.

In Vovchansk, the RAF have engaged assault groups of the 4th division. They are trying to improve their logistics and communication between units.

Currently, the RAF are concentrating their assault operations in the city in residential areas. They are setting up their new evacuation points near high-rise buildings.
