  1. Having watched a lot of online discussion on this I’m not as behind as before

  2. Signed! Man I love using SPID nowadays. One of the very few smart things our government has implemented.

  3. How do they define “Destroying Videogames”? Is it more like “No Microtransactions” or more in the lets say special way of “no Black characters and only female characters that are fuckable” ?

  4. I’m not signing it. I done my research and watch several videos on it and it hurts games more than it helps

  5. “The initiative does not seek to acquire ownership of said videogames”

Useless initiative, because this should be the main point. If I don’t own it then copying isn’t piracy.

  6. Just in case we have any game developers/publishers here that would wish to further this cause being able to publicly use your companies name would be huge help when arguing for this. There are some really big publishers that have come against this (obviously). We really need the ability to show this is not players vs developers issue but one of publisher greed and consumers. Grand examples like Larian or CDPR I am sure would be willing if we can reach them.

  7. I would like to see more of an effort to preserve digital content overall. Data is valuable and we have the resources to preserve it in this day and age. It’s also a shame when we lose things to outdated hardware, especially when companies fight against things like emulating abandonware. It’s simply unethical when they do this

  8. This is where I would put my vote as a UK lad. IF I HAD ONE!!!

  9. Unfortunately “since its inception, only 10 ECI campaigns – out of 110 that were validly registered – have collected the 1 million necessary signatures to trigger a response to the Commission. More critically, none of the successful ECIs materialised into a legislative proposal fully capturing the campaigns’ demands – ECIs have at best led to partial victories.” [Source](https://www.thegoodlobby.eu/are-european-citizens-initiatives-worth-the-effort/)

    Edit: I signed it anyway.

  10. It’s a tough barrier to cross and I doubt it will get there. Maybe it would’ve been better to broaden the goal of the petition in order to garner more support. Anyways, that’s no reason to give up hope. I’ve just signed it and I hope that others will too!

  11. Signed! Video Game preservation needs to exist in the same level as book and film preservation!

  12. More info about initiative? I’m at work can’t Google too much.

  13. I know someone that is trying to make the biggest museum and library of video games, toys and other pop culture in Europe.

  14. Top comment should be the link to vote and summary of the initiative ffs.

  15. I don’t understand this proposal…. according to the TOS the game is provided as a license and not the product itself so if you accept the TOS you shouldn’t have any complaints after 🤔

  16. Seeing as a lot of people are asking for a link and a summary, here you go: [https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en](https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en)

    >This initiative calls to require publishers that sell or license videogames to consumers in the European Union (or related features and assets sold for videogames they operate) to leave said videogames in a functional (playable) state.

    >Specifically, the initiative seeks to prevent the remote disabling of videogames by the publishers, before providing reasonable means to continue functioning of said videogames without the involvement from the side of the publisher.

    >The initiative does not seek to acquire ownership of said videogames, associated intellectual rights or monetization rights, neither does it expect the publisher to provide resources for the said videogame once they discontinue it while leaving it in a reasonably functional (playable) state.

Disclaimer: This is not the wording for an actual law proposal, rather it’s an appeal to EU Parliament to write proper legislation with the intention to combat the destruction of videogames where possible.

  17. genuinely surprised ross somehow managed to pull this off and its already at 25%

  18. Sadly it’s not that simple: each country need to reach the minimum number of signature (green) to be counted at the very end.

So vote and advertise it to your friends and family!

  19. Finally something for the fat cats in Brussels to do.
