  1. I met the Galway chaplain a few times, an absolute gentleman. You couldn’t meet a nicer guy.

  2. Hope the Chaplain recovers from this. God forbid we do a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon as a neutral country.

Throw that prick away for life. There’s no reason why this shouldn’t be classed as a terror attack.

  3. Well done to the lads on duty for handling it so quickly. Hopefully the victim recovers quickly.

  4. Horrific. Some reports online suggest a little confusion as to whether the kid was shouting about DF involvement in the middle east or Mali, seems quite different things to commit an awful act about.

Not sure how they’ve gotten quite this incensed about DF peacekeeping of all things, theyre very young. But still perhaps we should consider all the ways our peacekeeping can be viewed in the world. Coverage of our peacekeeping in our media makes us all feel good about ourselves but leave us a bit dumbfounded when there’s a negative reaction to it but realities of peacekeeping missions is that this can happen.

RTÉ and the likes could do better to educate people on how and why some might feel hostile and try to control our narrative a bit more. Instead from our media we’ve often gotten coverage that feels like it’s trying to not offend Israel half the time or is shaping debate around neutrality in a way that paints us more as de facto part of a western military establishment.

Doesn’t feel like they’re recognising all the dangers to the DF. Small things that make politicians look good in Europe can have knock on effects in parts of the world we don’t fully or want to understand. Clare Daly and Richard Boyd Barrett viral videos may have done more to protect the lads out there lately than Martin or Varadkar have in some ways lol. God knows what the plan is if they get stuck between Hezbollah and Israel.

  5. Ireland has never been involved in US / Allied actions in the Middle East and yet it seems we’re still seeing these kinds of incidents. Sad times.

  6. To think 5 years ago these crimes weren’t happening, now random stabbings have become common place – the airport attack on German tourist, school girls and now this. Sad times in our country

  7. Another “mental health incident” from a new Irishman..

  8. Geez I hope this isn’t like the terrorist attack last year in France where they decapitated a priest on the altar. This Chaplin who was attacked is a priest a
, not sure why the state sponsored media is not reporting that fact.
