    But also, Americans are conditioned to want sprawling car-dependent cities and the cheap gas that enables it. Politicians, therefore, are strongly incentivized to pass or implement policies that enable those.

  2. The minute the U.S. economy shows ANY signs of slowing down, it becomes a national political issue that can swing the outcome of a presidential election. So a self-correcting mechanism that ousts any candidate who might champion de-growth.

    Meanwhile, green energy just becomes an *additional* source of power rather than a replacement for oil-based energy. And with crypto and AI sucking up ever greater quantities of electricity, we’ll need MORE MORE MORE!
