Good, Russia needs to end its invasion of Ukraine
what happened to ‘no limits’?
The US has been steadily tracing payments and warning banks, both individually and via high-level visits to China.
Any bank which violates the sanctions against Russian banks risks being summarily cut off from Western banks, which is a commercial death-sentence.
Texas Hold’em Limits – when Russia runs out of chips.
Looks like Russia’s financial game just hit a major ‘game over’ screeen.
China knows that it is dependent on international trade. If the West sanctions the Chinese economy, it will go into a great depression and everyone will starve.
Oh shit China is realizing Russia is too far gone to be of use
>Now, 98% of Chinese banks — even small regional ones — are refusing to accept direct Chinese payment transfers from Russia, Alexey Razumovsky, the commercial director of the payments company Impaya Rus, told the pro-Kremlin media outlet Izvestia.
That is even better/worse than the headline makes it sound.
I thought they were good buddies
Nearly all thats mean some are operational and thats enought.
Isn’t that like half the income to aliexpress? How are they dealing?
I feel like everyone sees the writing on the wall at this point
I thought Russia and China were buddies? What happened?
Thanks China!
With each passing day, Russia’s lifeline gets cut off more and more from the rest of the world.
How can they publish and article with the country’s name wrong? It’s not “Russia”, it’s Occupied Region of Lesser Ukraine. They need to update their spell check.
This is good. Russia is going to hurt a lot, but not in a bloody way. Solving modern war problems without nukes is a good thing.
Let’s gooo. It’s almost over boys
this is going to hurt so so much. Russia won’t be able to cope with it for more than 2 years, so ukrainian’s victory is 50% assured
China is so much smarter than russia. They’re just playign the long game while benefiting and waiting for russia’s collapse to pounce.
Fun fact: the biggest ice hockey arena and major venue for other enertainment in Helsinki Finland is in deep shit since it is owned by a Russian billionare who can’t even pay utilities since banks do not accept their money.
So much for that eternal friendship, eh?
Ooops
Barney Rubles
Probably because Russia is just passing on the “I.O.U’s” that trump has given them
Didn’t anyone warn Putin about a two front war?
More SWIFT diplomacy?
So sanction works… that why the brics want to build the alternative world
Thanks, Biden Administration! God damn does it feel good to have competent and skilled people at the helm.
The Chinese and Russian “friendship” has always been this way.
Interestingly a few global banks that my organisation uses in the US, EMEA and APAC have contacted us the last week or so saying that they will not longer be processing payments to or from Russian banks, effective immediately at the time of the notice.
We never did business in Russia to begin with so we had zero care factor on that front. But it was surprising to see such an abrupt notice come through unannounced.
As much as I would like to think it’s because of sanctions.
I would say it is more likely that China is playing the long game, moving pieces like this to help destabilize the Russian economy and hoping for a soviet style collapse, so they can bank-roll break away regions for mineral/resource development.
Which plays into why China has bankrolled an entire railway system to Europe that bypasses Russia, every little bit that chips away at the stability of the Russian state, moves China closer to regional dominance.
So long for BRICS
I wonder if this is real or just a soundbite meant for western media
I love secondary sanctions. They are like the armor-piercing bullets of diplomacy. They take a while to implement, and they are complicated in actual practice (since there are a lot of smaller and larger nations you have to cajole, argue with, and close ranks on), but once they are in place they truly screw over an adversary.
They then must spend a lot of time, effort, and money lost to get even a fraction of the freedom they once had. And it weakens their soft power in profound ways.
So much for the “No Limits” partnership.
Lets me know when the headline changes to 100% of banks.
Trouble in paradise? I thought Xi and Putin were butt buddies but I guess Xi was just using Putin as a lightning rod?
Stupid paywall
The term you’re looking for, is FUCKED.
This is great but don’t get too excited. The underground economy in China is incredibly robust.
They’ll find a way to buy Russian oil and gas somehow but will expect an even bigger discount to compensate.
I hope unscrupulous investors don’t take this as an opportunity to dump all their crypto, wiping out illicit Russian and Iranian reserves. China took a big hit last time so I don’t think they’re as exposed as they were.
It’s intriguing to see the financial pressure mounting on Russia from multiple frontss.
