  1. Here’s a preview of the story:

Last month was the warmest July on record for the last 175 years, experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Thursday.

This marks the 14 consecutive month of record-breaking global warm temperatures, said Karin Gleason, monitoring section chief for NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information.

NOAA’s findings differed very slightly from the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, another resource for seasonal forecasts, which ranked July 2024 as the second hottest July on record, behind July 2023.

“NOAA data set the record warm July by three hundredths of a degree Celsius,” said Gleason. “It’s essentially very close to a virtual tie [to July 2023] by all intents and purposes.”

  2. This is what is so scary about climate change. This was the hottest on record, yet it was temperate and pleasant conditions in Portland, Oregon, where I live. All summer long. It even rained in July and again this week. I’ve never seen that for as long as I’ve lived here.

It’s just getting out of control unpredictable. One week pleasant temps, the next scorching.

  3. It’s strange, I live in Scotland and I reckon it would be a pretty good bet to say it’s possibly been the coldest and wettest summer we’ve experienced. Apparently the jet stream is circulating lower than usual, bringing cold weather and it’s been like that for months.

Everywhere else though you can see that the planet is clearly heating up each year, normally records are being broken consecutively.

Edit: as I typed that up I have my winter jacket on as im just about to take my dog for a walk. Seriously!

  4. We are going to keep seeing these types of warmest months. It’s not gonna stop.
