1. Those data centers are actually doing something useful for society. If you’re looking for an enormous waste of energy on the scale of countries look instead at the bitcoin “mining” industry.

2. This is no surprise since California uses 237 TWhs of electricity which probably ranks it in the top ten countries in the world. I agree with the earlier comment that those data centers support an lot of commerce and other activity including research and education.
