  5. It’s a major problem politically

    The choices are:

    – do nothing and look weak
    – attack your own territory and have footage of “Russia bombing and attacking its own territory”

    It will be extremely easy to say “Russian is attacking its own cities” and spin that as propaganda.

    I suspect there is real concern in the regime that they will have a hard time politically dealing with attacking themselves. Especially with conscripted troops who were told they won’t be fighting.

    It’s a real easy step for soldiers who aren’t happy to go from “attack the Russia Ukraine is holding” to “attack the Russia the regime is holding”

  6. Looks like Putin has an awful lot of these weak spots for what was supposed to be a 3 day operation with the second best military in the world.

There was an article about a month or a few weeks ago talking about how Russia called the secretary of defence and told him they know about a covert Ukrainian plot and seemed really concerned about it.  I’m going to assume Russia actually knew about this before it happened and was still unable to do anything about it.  This makes Russia look even more incompetent if they had no defence although they knew it was coming.

  11. I would personally feel more comfortable if this was .like an old fashioned cavalry raid. Pop in make a huge mess, get the headlines and get out. Don’t want to put your own head In a potential noose.

    I thought that Ukraine goals was to free Ukraine soil…. But there are Russian troops there, meanwhile in Khursk there are civilitians, and they are much easier to defeat.
