Boris Johnson is in his bunker surrounded by the noisy Eurosceptic right – and the end is nigh

  1. This man and his cohorts have no shame. The end is not nigh, the loudest audience has already lost interest in Partygate and Savilegate and Carriegate etc and happy to move on especially since they can’t wait for BJ to end all Covid safety measures by the end of the month. Unless people pull a French Revolution he will only leave No 10 when he wants to or when passing away from old age.

  2. In what way is it nigh?

His party are not going to do anything about him until after May when he can be told to go after losing councils.

I suppose May is soon but it is also the case that they have time to start shifting polls, the Tories have all the necessary tools to do so as well.

I’m not saying Johnson isn’t likely to cause the party losses and it is very likely they will get rid of him due to his obvious unsuitability as a PM candidate in a future election but pretending he is somehow days away from fucking off is pointless, he is dug in and currently safe.

It is also the case that polling isn’t as obviously devastating for them as it should be, right now I think Labour would struggle in an actual campaign and the Tories know it. Not to say they wouldn’t have their own struggle but post brexit English nationalism makes this a very different prospect than 1997, Blue Labour isn’t necessarily the landslide winner that it once was.

  3. The final scenes of Downfall are at hand.

The bizzare, loony rant of Suella Braverman today about a 1,000 year Brexit shows just how deranged these cookies are.

  4. Among the usual thirty things I have to click to make go away on the Independent website there was an auto playing advert that opened with screaming children.

It’s like they’re actively trying to make their website hostile to visitors.
