Geographically and historically, Athens should be the most beautiful city in the world. The weather is mild, magnificent archaeological sites abound, it’s next to the sea, etc. All it needed were some wide footpaths/sidewalks, trees, parks … places for people to walk, discuss, etc.
Today, it’s instead a moronically organized cement heap that basically looks like Beirut. Over 90% percent of it (almost everything besides Plaka and Vassilissis Sophias) is unwalkable by two people discussing side-by-side. Philosophy could never have been born in today’s Athens. Footpaths/sidewalks are stupidly designed, narrow and often filled with ‘*parked*'(!) mopeds and sometimes even cars!
As for the nearby beautiful sea, the purported descendants of Socrates and Plato decided to place a huge, constantly busy six-lane+ highway … *right next* to the beaches!
Ugliness, rubbish, graffiti, etc. is everywhere, beautiful neoclassical buildings typically in decay, cement monstrosities dominate … a city that seems to have been constructed by masochists or the mentally challenged.

Και μετά από 69 χρόνια όλοι λένε ότι έχουν καταγωγή απο Αθήνα.
