  1. let’s be real, a lot of them are striking just so they can continue this

  2. Why they asking the government to change the culture they are all a part of?

  3. Wonderful. I imagine this type of thing have people talking about the way things are and that we can fix them.

I don’t want a perfect world but a better one is always a good thing.

  4. Sickening that this happened. I hope the outrage can spark change.

  5. It’s frustrating how different articles call the victim different things. I’ve seen medic and trainee now.

She was a resident. Training to be a doctor. As if misnaming and therefore devaluing her potential future career would make her loss worth less.

The medical staff should be angry. No workplace is safe. Especially one with night shifts.

  6. Rapists should be exterminated… end of story.. way to many people in this world to keep them in it as well..

  7. All these religious & social concepts created when we as a species could barely write still haunt us centuries later. But even they would punish transgressions.

  8. Perfect time to shank a rapist around you in the nuts while the strike is going on.

  9. Heartbreaking but also encouraging to see news of rape cases emerging in pretty much every tier1/2 city in the country.

We need to talk about it. Plaster it everywhere. Hiding it did no one any good.

  10. India needs to do to rapists what Ecuador did to gangs. A massive overcorrection is needed

  11. As a women, I can’t fathom the fear of living in a place where you worry daily you will be gang rapped and murdered. Horrific.

  12. Maybe I missed it while skimming but what is the specific change they are hoping to achieve from this strike?

I think I can piece together that there is a history of not really investigating/prosecuting this type of thing very seriously, and they are wanting that to not be the case here. But the article only says they are protesting for quick investigation and prosecution, not that this is expected not to happen without the strike.

Can anyone shed some light on the situation there? Is this kind of thing relatively common to the point it is mostly ignored by authorities?

  13. Absolutely horrific what happened to her. Violently gang raped and murdered while resting after a 36 hour shift. The police apparently tried to convince her parents it was suicide, which by the state of her body was ludacris.

I’m so glad to see the doctors going on strike in response, and the people taking to the streets to demand change.

The people of India need to stand up against the powers that keep allowing this to happen and covering it up. And the rest of the world needs to stand with them. This is not OK.

  14. A friend of mine told me. Her friend went to temple to pray and she got harrased. Someone touch her ass, in the holy place for em.

  15. Good. I am an Indian, and this is not just Kolkatas problem, or West Bengal’s problem, or the government problem, this is my problem, and all of Indias problem. This is our problem. Everyone must take action against this. We need to be men again. We need to stop consuming porn and viewing women as sexual objects, we need to be masculine. The world is becoming worse, but we can make it better.

  16. This is an honest question:

Is it me, or does there appear to be an especially potent version of rape culture in India?
