1. Writer just discovered tropes.

2. I assume their shows use the same equipment, special effect crews, and specs.

3. Sets and costumes are expensive.

4. I wish their sports documentary series didn’t all follow the exact same blueprint, right down to the annoying Tweet noises.

   I’m watching Sprint and really the only worthwhile stuff is the glimpses at training and getting to see more of the athletes’ personalities.

5. For real over here charging people just to see the same shit over and over. Fuck Netflix!

7. Wednesday doesn’t look like Outer Banks. Ozark doesn’t look like Umbrella Academy. Stranger Things doesn’t look like Narcos.

The bit about the brightness of scenes is probably because it’s going to look more impressive in 4K / Dolby Vision, and that means they sell more higher end subscriptions to people with the setups to take advantage of that. Nothing’s more infuriating than having a nice OLED set and still not being able to see what the hell is going on.

    Perhaps that contributes to a similar look.

11. I would argue that this is true for most productions made by streaming services. All of HBO’s main shows look similar to each other as well

12. This is hollywood and modern capitalism in general. One person makes something new and it does well, expect the same approach/style/format from other shows. Why reinvent the wheel over and over?

14. One small thing that plagues the industry as a whole is the lack of practical FX in shows and movies. The end result is that most FX like fire, explosions, blood, or gunshots, are added by studios that almost all use the same library of stock Vfx to complete the shot. These packages are so overused that it’s sometimes possible to spot them the same way you hear sound FX that are overused. For Vfx artists these are the new Wilhelm Scream.

16. so many Netflix shows *sound* the same, too. whoever writes the EXTREMELY ON THE NOSE songs for their lame unscripted shows like Love is Blind should be quietly put out of their misery.
