Yes but your country has things to show for it. You know stuff like metros, links to the airport.
Just FYI, ending a sentence with “isn’t it” or “innit” is a Britishism. We don’t do that here.
How do French income taxes work OP? Every calculation I’ve made shows that I’d pay less tax in France. E.g for 60k, what would your net be?
Imagine bragging about how much tax you have to pay
Cost of living is a lot lower there
Deemed Disposal is an embarrassment for this country!
Ye, but I bet you get FAR more value from your tax?
In Ireland the top 10% have an effective tax rate of about 35%. Income inequality is very high in this country, there’s too much of a gap between those on minimum wage and the people earning 100k+.
Personally I’d like to see another tax band at about 70 or 80k. Once you’re earning over 100k your effective tax rate should be getting closer to 50%. That’ll bring us all back a bit closer together
Count things like private pension, creche and health insurance as tax in Ireland as you get those services fully financed by tax in France and you’ll see that France has got a much better deal. Also no deemed disposal or deposit interest tax.
Me hearing r/Ireland complaining about renting prices in Dublin when rent is just as expensive in a city in the middle of nowhere in my country, and minimum wage here is half of what it is in Ireland 🙂
According to the tax calculators online I would take home more in France.
I’d also have a lower cost of living.
Silence frog!
Cheese eating surrender monkeys!
I’m Irish living in France. The micro entrepreneur (self employed) status is a flat 24% of all my gross income which sucks. But I get free healthcare, reasonable rent and good transport infrastructure. Food is a bit pricier than ireland and pubs are about the same price though.
France is elite though. Such a fuckin beautiful country. Also been to Paris many times, have almost NO French, and always had an amazing time and treated nicely!
Good points raised about France getting a lot more back for these taxes.
I also want to point out that Paris is in a state of riot almost 24/7. Ireland complain on Reddit.
Well, that sentence kinda lost the subject/object structure, aren’t I?
To be fair there is a little truth to this.
I’ve not long moved home from Germany, in a job which the same salary (around €1k less) and I’m €800 better off per month with taxes alone.
I was also living in a very expensive city in Germany and have moved to Cork. My living expenses are a decent bit lower now also.
Was a no brainer to come home. But it doesn’t excuse the lack of return we get for our taxes here.
Yeah but you haven’t taken in to account that you have to live in Ireland.
Lmfao you’re not a bright bulb
Yeah because our taxes are shoved down a big black hole of nothingness in Ireland. We’re not just bemoaning the idea of taxation, we’re pissed off that we get so little in return. Take your smugness and fuck off
My tax rate in France is identical to what it was in Ireland. Nobody pays 60% or anything close to it.
Come here, wait 18 months the for an appointment in one of our free healthcare services and then look at the public transport, the roads, the policing, the services for the disabled, the homeless, the mentally ill, and then come and talk to me about my complaints. In France you pay high taxes for incredible medical systems, infrastructure and actual free medications. I’d be MORE than happy to pay my taxes any day if I could see anyone benefiting. We are allowed to grumble.
Basically y’all pissed because you’re paying a lot of taxes and not getting much for it. Sounds familiar.
Hey! A post about lurkers! I don’t understand 90% of the stuff y’all talk about. Have a nice day
Given the increasing insecurity/safety and class issues in France (speaking as a French transplant in Ireland), I’d take Ireland’s taxes anytime even if France has more to show for it (infrastructure, healthcare, free education etc…).
How quickly do you pay 60% ?
After just €35,300 I’m paying 50%+.
Please remember we’re taxed on everything we buy usually at 23% , except for motor fuel and drink which are taxed at a far higher rate, then road tax, home tax, and numerous other stealth taxes, after you’ve paid tax on your basic income. This has to come out at around 60% at least
I live in a country with an extremely low cost of living and am on around €41 k (tax free).
What kind of salary would I need to earn in Ireland if I was to move back home if I wanted to be on par with what I earn now.
It’s not about tax rate. It’s about what you get in return for paying that tax.
