Ukraine ‘controls 74 Russian settlements’ amid offensive

A second Russian border region has declared a state of emergency as Ukraine’s incursion operation continues to expand.

General Olesandr Syrsky, the head of the Ukrainian army, said on Tuesday night that his forces had captured more than 40 square kilometres of territory within the last 24 hours.

As fighting spilled over into the neighbouring region of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the region, declared a state of emergency on Wednesday morning, describing the situation as “extremely difficult and tense” due to intense shelling and drone attacks.

  21. Absolute lies, the Russians have basically already won. The average age of a Ukrainian soldier is now past 40 years old. All this western lead proxy war has done is drain money from working class people and killed thousands of innocent Ukrainians. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!

    as the villages contain no military, I guess controlling civilians after bombing and shooting them will be "" uncontested""
    Has Ukraine moved up further troops to consolidate the advance ? doubtful as they don't really have them .
    Has Ukraine got an open supply line? medical, food, fuel, weapons ? nope as this supply line has been destroyed.
    How will reinforcements get to them ? which will allow to hold and defend and implement "" control"" such as patrols, stopping people leaving and entering the area they "control" curfews distribution of food and normal life needs , that whole business takes more man power that has actually made the incursion. over the border.
    Have they set up air defences ? to cover their advance and the controlled area ?

    so I can't see that there can be control, whilst Russian aircraft can strafe, missiles, mortars, can be fired, and there is no " safety" zone for the troops to operate or considerate next moves from. And how is that possible with 2-3 thousand men, when the whole Ukraine army has not moved Russian army from the areas in the southern regions in 2 1/2 years. and are loosing territory daily.
    latest military report, 1.500 Ukraine casualties so far. They are surrounded, except backwards, by Russian military. expanding is not about moving forward through rural villages, its about holding and securing what you already have. so that you can CONTROL
    Dressing up as Russian soldiers to do this, hardly heroic action. and the purpose the target, can only be the nuclear power station, as there are no military bases.
    as Ukraine has attempted to disrupt/ destroy nuclear power station in Zaporizhzhia on the Dnieper river, by blowing up the dam and therefore rendering the cooling towers inefficient, which would have made a nuclear disaster area, and recently by attacking with drones and again causing fires within one of the cooling towers. Attacking nuclear facilities, was and is still regarded as nuclear terrorism.
    Fortunately , The Russian military and scientist early in the operation secured this nuclear power plant, so about 2 years ago, and went through the process of powering down, to prevent, such a catastrophe, that would harm Europe and Ukraine.

    Apart from PR move., and once again expending uselessly Ukrainian soldiers lives, oh and thinking Russia may move soldiers form the south, and capturing the nuclear power plant in some kind of exchange or negotiating card, for Ukraine with Russia.
    sadly the Russian troops have moved from the North, and Ukraine Casualties, unless they return back over the border will be completed. it was an expensive no win move, once again. by the thinkers in Nato who thought this one up. but total provocation of the Russian government.
