  1. I hope he waits just a few more weeks..
Once the ballots have been printed, he can’t be removed from them.

Then I hope he pulls him.

  2. He’s genuinely the single *worst* VP pick I’ve seen in a long time.

  3. JD isn’t helping – I think he’s actively hurting the ticket. Removing him would be worse for the ticket. That’s why I think Trump should remove him from the ticket.

  4. If they remove/replace Vance, Harris and Walz can mock-complain about how unfair it is!

  5. His polling and favorability numbers — yikes

I thought going into this he was a stronger pick, but holy shit was I wrong. Everything this man does is unlikeable with no chance of improvement

  6. If I were the Dems I would be running lots of tv ads and billboards targeting Vance. With a big picture of Vance and a small pic of Trump together.

Bur Lindsay Graham said this election isn’t going to be won by provokteurs so maybe it isn’t such a good idea.

  7. I don’t think the Republicans are allowed to abort before the due date.

  8. Has somebody compiled the exhaustive list of every demographic Vance managed to offend in these past few weeks yet?

Childless women, parents (!), postmenopausal women, immigrants, Democrats, veterans, people of color, couch owners… The list just seems to get bigger every day.

I want to see all of it in an accessible, cross-referenced, and up-to-day format. It’s going to be UUGE!

  9. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group.

You get what you pay for.

  10. When I look at Trump and JD, and I had had to pick one person to be replaced, I would not pick JD first.

  11. At this point it would be complicated and expensive. Won’t happen.

  12. He’ll try to do the same thing as when Biden dropped out after the RNC.

Which would probably work if he dropped out and gave the nod the Haley, who would pardon him and Trump could live out his life as some kind of conservative hero for saving Jesus or something.

But he won’t. Instead he’ll just fire JD and expect the same result as Kamala got. And he’ll go on to lose in shame, then die in prison.

  13. JD is such a bad choice that I’m seeing intelligent people hinting that Trump picked him on purpose to have a scapegoat when he loses. The plan was probably IF he loses but JD has significantly outperformed expectations such that he makes a Harris/Waltz victory all the more likely. The most interesting narrative attached to Trump is he can’t possibly be as dumb as he appears so he much be executing this brilliant strategy that only appears dumb. I can assure you, he’s an idiot. He has succeeded because he’s all ID. He has no compassion and is fuelled by fear and hate which just so happens to work on a startlingly large portion of the population. I think that’s what intelligent folks struggle with. Its easier to accept that an orange-faced, straw-haired, rapist is secretly brilliant than to accept that possibly half of the people you encounter every day would happily eat paste if it was on the shelf next to the peanut butter at the grocery store.

  14. Trump cannot boot him because he would be admitting that he made a Huge Mistake, which he is fundamentally incapable of admitting. The Koch Syndicate can force him to quit with a lame Family or Health excuse without the same damage.

  15. Thiel and Grenell did this, they also brought faild Lake into politics and one of them (Grenell) ‚organized‘ the legendary Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference.
One could think the work for the other side 😂 but its their hate which is making them blind for reality. Same as Trump.

  16. Even if Biden were still the nominee, I don’t understand how Vance was a good pick. Trump was ahead in the polls but not to the point where he could initiate a victory lap that early and people wouldn’t care at all who the VP was. There’s just something very off-putting about the way Vance talks, like uncanny valley. And now we have the constant trickle of really dumb stuff he’s said publicly being released.

That being said I don’t think Rubio ever had a chance. Feel like Trump hates his guts and was only dangling the possibility to troll him. Same with Haley or Ramaswamy, who would generate too much attention away from Trump, which he wouldn’t like.

  17. No VP candidate is going to help or hurt the orange turd’s ticket.

He’s got his cult, he could molest a child in front of them on stage and they’d blame Kamala or Biden or Obama. Doesn’t matter who his running mate is, he’s got his cult and they’re set.

He’s not gaining or losing anything.

  18. Vance is not just “not helping Trump’s ticket” but he is hurting it.

Trump is morbidly obese, eats lots of junk food and drinks a lot of Diet Coke. He is 78. Trump could drop dead on any given day. Then we would be stuck with this completely unprepared and unqualified creep as our President.

Of course Trump himself is woefully unqualified, but doubling down with this abomination of a VP pick and giving us, potentially, this weirdo as our President is unacceptable to most Americans.

Vance, just a heartbeat away from replacing a morbidly obese 78 year old who has a major affinity for junk food and sugary caffeine soft drinks? Most Americans don’t want that guy to be President, so Vance is actively hurting the ticket at this point.

  19. Why not remove both and be like “Nah, we skip this election”?

  20. I found the problem!!!

“A main purpose of the vice presidential candidate, beyond avoiding harm or generating negative news cycles, is to highlight the presidential candidate’s judgment and values.”

They have no fucking values, just hate.

  21. I want them to keep JD on the ticket. I honestly think if they brought on Nikki Haley it has the potential to reinvigorate their base.

  22. First off: Hahahhahahhahahhahhahahahhhahhhah!!!

Second: removing him would involve Trump admitting that he made a mistake and I and a lot of people don’t think that’s gonna happen.

    Third: Hahahhhhahhahahhahahhhahahhha

  23. It’s a real problem. They can’t remove trump from the ticket, even though he clearly has serious cognitive disabilities, because [vance] is even more despised by voters outside the diehard maga bubble.

    Oh well. What’s for lunch?

  24. It’s pretty telling that when Trump thought he was going to coast to a win, he picked the weirdest, most incorrigible, absolute dickhead to stuff down our throats. Not an across the aisle guy, or a behind the scenes workhorse, an insufferable shithead whose sole purpose is to make half the population cower.

    Trump is an abusive prick.

  25. It’ll be really funny when MAGAts turn on him if Trump loses. Obviously JD didn’t pay attention to what happened to Trump’s last running mate.

  26. Pretty sure anyone voting for Trump could give a rats ass who his VP is or what he says/does.

  27. There’s no way Vivek helps the ticket. It’s like people have completely forgotten about his performance in the primaries. He’s just as bigoted and unlikable as Vance, with a bigger helping of sycophancy.

  28. The authors brought up a piece of history I was not really familiar with, when McGovern chose Eagleton as his running mate, but then discovered he had been hospitalized for depression and had received electroshock therapy. This was in 1972, the Cold War was freezing, and no one wanted someone with mental illness (sorry, this is not my opinion, it was the times and mental illness was *not* discussed in public) that close to the nuclear codes. Eagleton stepped down and a new running mate was named.

    From a different article:

“The election was held 99 days later. Richard Nixon would defeat George McGovern in a landslide — the widest margin of victory in the popular vote in presidential history.”

So, that was the point the authors were making, that it could be truly disastrous, at least for trump.

But I’m not sure it’s a fair comparison. McGovern had alienated a lot of voters, and looking uninformed in his VP pick hurt him a lot. Trump’s supporters do not care.

So besides the hassle of getting the new VP candidate on the ballot, it could be done.

Of course, Vance has to willingly stand down. Not sure how that’s going to work.

  29. Who do you save if JD Vance and Ted Cruz are both drowning?

  30. Sorry Republicans, you’ve gotta carry both to term
