Seeing it spread out like this makes me realize how much we lack in depth. 5 mids when 3 are starting, and no real subs for our front three.
I don't know what game Giuntoli is playing, but he should move fast. Either get new players, or stop playing hardball and try to push out squad players for whom we have no replacements.

The notion that Chiesa can’t help this team is a fucking joke. Anyone who says otherwise is a clown. We’re an injury away from playing Mbangula 45 fucking games. Motta, Giuntoli, and Chiesa need to swallow their egos and sign a 1 year extension because this roster is a disaster.

if we, theoretically, sign Koop, Conceicao and Nico, this means that, at 4-3-3, the positions we will have covered are GK, CMs (Locatelli, Thuram, Koop, Fagioli, Luiz, McKennie, Miretti for 3 spots), wingers (Yildiz, Nico, Weah, Conceicao for 2), as well as LB (Cambiaso, Cabal). Problematic remain the RB and CB spots – if we play Bremer-Danilo, there is no RB option, if we play Danilo as RB then we are stuck with Gatti and no depth for either. CF is also where we are curiously lacking depth since Milik is injured often (like now).
So even if we get the 3 above, I think we still need a RB, CB and a CF. And at least one of the RB/CB should be of a higher quality than Kalulu, starter quality.
Somehow we have a worse squad than last year and that’s impressive on its own. 12 days until the mercato closes…
I get they want to push Chiesa out but he’s way more valuable on the bench today than a 3rd goalie or mbangula. Dybala played yesterday even tho he’s on way out

With this squad we are lucky to hit maybe 6th-8th place. Absolutely a disgrace from a management point of view. Freezing players out at the get go and not having their replacements in already? Wow.
It’s actually insane to me how weak this squad is compared to last year. What the hell were they thinking? They sold basically all of our younger players, then there are like 5 or more players who are out of the squad but they haven’t managed to sell yet, and the replacements are taking forever to be brought.
this is truly a disasterclass from Giuntoli and others. I mean, even if they bring in Koopmeiners, Nico and Conceicao, it’s still an incredibly thin squad. Not to mention we are also playing the Champions league this year.

Ok, I don’t want to be negativist again, I understand the decisions taken in the cases of Chiesa, Milik and others. But looking on this squad I don’t understand why a guy like Miretti was sent loan. A player who had good games last year, who had space in this squad to play considering how many matches we have this season. Also Caviglia..this guy would have been useful in a Coppa Italia game for example..
Do Giuntoli and Motta know we are participating in:
1. Serie A – 38 games
2. Coppa Italia – 1-5 games
3. Supercoppa Italiana – 1-2 games
4. Champions League – 8-10 games in the group stage (10 in case of a knockout game if we finish below 8th) + 2-7 in the KO phase
5. FIFA Club World Cup – 3 games in the group stage + 1-4 games in the KO phase
This means a (bare) minimum of 51 games in 47 weeks straight. Thats an average of ~ 1,1 games per week until end of next July, potentially more. Even with Koop, Nico and Kalulu the depth is nonexistent for such a long season.
My only explanation is that there is absolutely no target on performance this year. The main goal will be CL qualification, all the rest is irrelevant – Coppa + Supercoppa don’t bring to much money. Participation funds for CL and FIFA CWC are secured, advancing along the knockout stages is probably seen as a profit that’s only possible with too high investments (e.g. retaining highly paid players, investing in new signings) so the ROI is just not there for Giuntoli.

Man, there’s so much doom and gloom in this sub already, and we are only on match day 1. This isn’t EA FC on easy mode with loose transfer negotiations turned on. It’s going to take time for Motta and Giuntoli to build the team that Motta wants. There’s no way we were going to revamp an entire squad in 1 transfer window. Everyone is complaining of the Chiesa situation but fails to realize that he isn’t as good as he used to be. Plus, he’s demanding more money than he’s worth. Why do you think no one has made any kind of reasonable offer for him. There’s still 12 days left to make some moves, and there’s also the winter transfer window. Everyone just needs to relax
Quality over quantity but we need more players
Everyone here is FIFA/Football Manager specialist that think signing and selling players is easy job, turning over millions of euros/dollars is signature away
People forget we don’t have deep pockets, we are still recovering from COVID and on top of that Motta has done a lot more last season with worse squad than this
Last year in August no one knew who Calafiori was and Zirkzee was a throwaway from Anderlecht
Everyone is judging from 3 games we played in pre season but we didn’t get any injuries in pre season or training
People relax, let’s watch some games first before we judge anyone
Management is not in our hands, so there’s no reason for us to panic right now. There are 12 days left in the mercato. Yes, we are thin now. If we are still this thin in 12 days, then I will agree it’s time to panic.
