I have seen now a Canadian, German and Dutch navy ship in the Thames! Why is this what’s the purpose of it and where do they even go?
After seeing yesterday’s German boat in the Thames it reminded me how I have seen many others before

London is a port with docks. Boats stop in ports with docks.
So the sailors can go along side and get pissed up. It’s a great naval tradition we share with our allies.
Because pushing it down the M1 would be a logistical nightmare.
There are armed forces exchange programmes. They visit us. We visit them. They all get drunk together.
They’re allies, so they are usually allowed to visit.
Mostly there for the crew to visit and to show off.
Port visits to ports in allied or friendly countries have a long history.
Other nation’s navy’s what? Navies are usually there at the UK’s invitation.
Because we’re cool
You can add Indian to that list of late as well.
The I.N.S. Tabar was moored up by H.M.S. Belfast when I was down visiting my folks the other week.
I got a [photo of it on its way back out to sea](https://imgur.com/a/8V6Nqj9).
I don’t think they can get very far because of the bridges, so they have to go back.
Just don’t ask any of the Germans about their itinerary, or they will end up in jail.
There was a Colombian ship a couple of months back as well
All ‘em bloody forin’ boats comin ‘ere
The first ship is Dutch, they sail the Thames because they are no longer allowed to sail the Medway.
The same reason the Royal Navy visits other cities around the globe
Summer in London is nice
When I was a kid in the 80s I went on a Russian submarine which was visiting my town’s dock. I remember some of the crew were watching Fawlty Towers on TV.
Anyone but the Vikings (bad experience once)
Cause that’s where the boat parking is?
