  1. Didn’t this attack happen in July? Dude really took his time, I guess Balmoral was more important.

  2. People were angry when King and RF only released a statement but this how it works . Their visit in such conditions are planned on advice of govt. since the riots were happening after the incident it might not have been deemed safe to visit. In 2011 when riots happened it was only after things cooled down Charles and Camilla visited the area not one time but five times. The Princes Trust was extremely dedicated towards helping the community.

David Lammy, the shadow foreign secretary and Tottenham MP, said the then-Prince of Wales visited his area five times in the aftermath of the riots, which he said meant “the stigma that can sometimes attach to an area that has riots did not attach to us”.

Let me just tell you why I’ll do it, and why I think my constituents will. Back in 2011 when the riots started in my constituency, it was a horrible, horrible time. I was aware it was the second time Tottenham had had riots in a generation [after the 1985 Broadwater Farm riot].

“I got phone calls from the then-prime minister David Cameron, the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, the leader of the opposition Ed Miliband… they all came to Tottenham – they never came back.” “I also got a phone call from the Prince of Wales. I asked him if he could come… and I said: ‘Will you come back?’ He said: ‘Of course.’ He came back five times. He brought the Prince’s Trust, he brought the Prince’s Foundation.

And you can see during these visits the stark contrast b/w politicians and royals, what role they play in the country. PM was heckled by the public when he visited the place but today people are all out there in large numbers to see the King.

  3. This article is better at explaining – posting because of some questions raised

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/aug/20/king-charles-southport-visit

“It follows the precedent of the late Queen Elizabeth during the rioting of 2011. In such previous cases, royal visits to trouble spots have tended to follow after the wave of unrest and violence has settled.”

“Tuesday’s visit is to express in person his continued support for those affected by the attack and its aftermath. He will meet members of the Southport community and representatives from Merseyside’s emergency services as well as local groups affected by the violent disorder in the town, including faith leaders.”

  4. This was right action to take. The attack victims have been largely forgotten. I think it was right time to visit, had he or any member of the royal family visited Southport as soon as that deadly event occurred, it would have cause chaos. Now, the situation has pacify, the survivors and victim parents had sometime to get back to normalcy, it is right time to show up and lend them some support and hope.

  5. Right on time with the *listening*, *learning* and *support*
