I am planning to drive this route of Norway in April or May with a camper van. I have noticed some of the routes involve ferries. Are they reliable? I am still looking for a company that will let me pickup in Oslo and return in Bergen because I really want to experience the train ride from Bergen to Oslo at the end of my trip. It's something I want to do but I'm wondering if it's worth it?

Yes and yes.
Yup, drove to bergen and back myself 2 weeks ago, had to take ferries. they come every 10 minutes like the bus, it was a great drive.
Ferries are very reliable unless when a storm hits.
Train journey is at times breathtaking but å lott of tunnels obscure the view.
Bon voyage
Feries are part of the road network just instead of bridges. So yes. If you can take a car I would do that instead of the train. You can see a lot more with a car. The train has a nice view, but from a car you have the freedom to go wherever you want
Note that there will still be snow in April.
Just returned yesterday from a 9 day trip to Norway, where I drove from Bergen to Kristiansund and back.
SO happy I rented a car, as I know I saw lots of amazing things I would not have otherwise – and was able to avoid the more touristy spots. Averaged 2 ferries a day, and it could not have been simpler. Never waited longer than 10 minutes, but most came quicker. Just drove on and the charges went automatically to car rental company who added it onto my final bill.
The ferries were cool and fun, most had great lounge areas with large windows if you wanted to get out of your car and stretch.
So civilized.
I miss them already.
Yes. I drove like every week between Stavanger and Bergen in Nov/Jan for a while. They are like clockwork.
