    Exotic pests [ invasive plant , insect , fungal, bacterial and viral species ]

    Inadequate or poorly designed and run controlled burns at the urban / forest gray zones.

    Inadequate or poorly designed and run controlled burns at prairie / forest boundaries

    All the above driven by global warming

    and, of course, cutting

  2. This was once true. But it isn’t now. 

    Forests have to be managed since trees don’t live forever. The old and sick trees need to be harvested so that new growth has room to grow and to reduce the risks of forest fires. 

    In the US and Canada, the harvesting of these sick, dead and soon to be dead trees is well regulated and is a win win for both the long term health of the forest ecosystem itself and the local rural communities. 

    Forestry is literally a branch of science taught in university right along side other earth sciences.
