Hello everyone, I am not sure this is the right sub to post it in.

But at the Maude’s hotel in Enskede, Stockholm the bikes from my (Dutch/Danish) parents where stolen from their car yesterday night. The thieves broke the bike carrier and took the locked bikes away. They filed a rapport with the police, but the police said watch online if we see them? Do you have tips where to look?

The bikes where a electric blue flyer bike and a red Canyon regular speed bike. Both brand new.

TLDR; bikes stolen from parents in Stockholm. Where to look online.

  1. Facebook market, I guess… Did the police really ask you to do their job for them?

  2. Sadly it is easier to win the lottery than getting stolen bikes back in Sweden. The bikes are probably not even in the country anymore.

  3. I found my stolen bike on Facebook Marketplace. Cops told me I had to identify the bike in person before they could do anything, but also that I shouldn’t under any circumstances meet up with the guy (????????). I just got my insurance money and bought a new bike, the system let the thief win. Even “stealing” your own bike back that u own is illegal here…

  4. Welcome to the theft capital of the world. There are around 70k-80k reported bike thefts per year and none of the incidents are investigated.

I’m sorry to say that the chance of those bikes being returned is very slim.

  5. I’m sorry for this. Check various places people sell stuff.

    Blocket.se
    Tradera.se
    Facebook market place

I’m overly paranoid when it comes to my bikes. When I’m not biking both of them are in my kitchen (in my one room apartment). I don’t even trust the storage units at the basement floor to keep them safe. Found drill marks on my brother’s bike while storing it down in the basement. Very likely one of the tenants actually living here because you need a key tag to get in.

  6. Oof, the Canyon seems expensive. Did they happen to have insurance on it?

  7. Facebook Marketplace and Blocket. Only works if they are amateur bike thiefs/drug addicts though. Professionals will send them overseas.

My advice: forget about them. they’re gone. get new bikes. it sucks, but it’s better to do that then thinking about them for months

  8. Cykloteket and Sportson both have goes deals on bikes right now. Check them out.

  9. Please get an Apple Air tag. It worked for me. Found my stolen bike at a bike store less than 1 hour after being stolen. I said to the owner that my bike is in your store. The owner said it wasn’t there. I threaten to destroy the place and cause havoc. Suddenly the owner found the bike in the back of the store. The owner said “a guy left it for repair without phone number or name”. A brand new bike.

I called cops (112) because of ongoing crime and they couldn’t connect to cops because it wasn’t urgent. Then I tipped the police for stolen goods + told Skatteverket I didn’t receive receipt from the store to help them to an unannounce visit and tipped them the store was withholding tax. Neither helped.

1 year later the store is still open and people write 5/5 reviews for cheap bikes and cheap repair.

A tip is to go to smaller bike stores and ask if they have a bicycle with your model. And then ask for color, then steal it back.

You must stand up for yourself. Never let the guard down and be prepare to fight for your right.

If society can’t bring justice, then create justice.
