  1. >**German federal police responsible for protecting borders, railroad stations and airports, recorded the highest number of crimes since 2012 last year, the interior minister has said.**

    >Nancy Faeser reported on Monday that 790,245 incidents were recorded in 2023 — a 12.5% increase year on year.

    >The German federal police are responsible for border protection, but also, among other things, securing railroad stations, facilities, and airports, and supporting the police in the German states, according to the Die Welt German national newspaper.

    >The number of immigration-related offenses rose sharply to 389,331 — up 38.8% year on year, Die Welt said.

    >As compared to 2022, last year there was also a large increase in sex crimes (up 14.9%), pickpocketing and baggage theft (up 16.4%), as well as violent crimes (up 10.6%), Die Welt reported.

    >The number of illegal entries into Germany also increased significantly. Last year, it stood at 127,549, the highest since 2016 and 39% higher year on year, the paper said.

    >Officials registered the highest number of cases (32,893) at the border with Poland, 28,099 at the border with Austria, 18,539 at the border with Switzerland, and 16,700 at the border with the Czech Republic, added the newspaper.

    >According to the daily, German federal police have also recorded an increasing number of attacks on their officers. Last year, 2,979 federal police officers were attacked — more than ever before. About a quarter of those attacked (793) were injured, which the federal police say is also the highest since records began in 2001.

    >The report shows that most of the perpetrators (78%) were men with an average age of 33. Nearly half of all criminals were under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Nearly half were German citizens.

    >The interior minister, who presented the report in Rostock on the Baltic coast in northern Germany, said that federal police will be strengthened in the face of [rising](https://tvpworld.com/79455087/germany-bans-islamic-body-citing-extremism) crime rates.

    >“We have allocated an additional €310 million in the government’s budget proposal for 2025, and an additional €312 million will be made permanently available from 2026,” Faeser said.

    >“Next year we will again strengthen the federal police force with an additional 1,000 full-time positions.”

  2. It’s due to the permanent border controls that where put into place due to the Eurocup, Olympia and the threat of Russian sabotage. If you do more controls, you will measure more crime.

Another point is that our population has grown by 5% since 2012, so one has to take the relative crime rate, not absolute numbers.

  3. Good, this means the police finally has started to register crimes.

  4. Ahh can’t wait for even more “is city xy safe?!” posts.

  5. Is OP a bot? He posts and comments 24/7 and if you scroll through the sub then it’s now post after post from him

  6. AND NEXT YEAR WILL BE HIGHER AGAIN, UNTIL YOU FINALLY COME TO YOUR SENSES.

  7. This is related to the border police. Can’t wait how many people won’t bother reading the actual article.

  8. Yikes! I’m so surprised that crime is rising. Always thought of a germany as relatively low in crime like Czechia or Denmark.
