Ukrainian attack drones mounted a large strike into Russia tonight, with multiple explosions, smoke and flames seen rising from Oktyabrskoye Airfield in Volgograd Oblast.
Local sources report at least 12 explosions near the Russian airbase.

Why can’t Russia defend its own airbases? Isn’t that a basic competency?
I remember after the invasion happened and Russia couldn’t get to Kyiv, got driven out of Kherson, that twitter and telegram were filled with Russians saying that Russia is fighting all of NATO and they are still holding on to their acquired territory.
Russia is such a surreal place, mostly undefended but feared and coddled.
Wonderful!
I thought that airbase was in crimea?
[This tweet](https://x.com/Osinttechnical/status/1826432796925030577) with video is crazier, there are large fires in multiple directions. More Space Force converted to infantry.
Planning these raids must be fun: choosing the location, scouting the air defenses, prioritizing the individual targets, picking the ordnance and the drones, putting together the team, briefing the team knowing that no one on it is going to die or be in any danger at all, picking a date and a time, setting it in motion, watching things unfold on multiple screens as the drones cross the countryside at low altitude, watching the results as the drones crash into their targets. Lots of reward for so little risk.
The Volgograd Oblast is east of Luhansk and East of Ukraine. It is about 200 miles from Ukrainian controlled territory. The Volgograd Oblast borders to Khazakstan.
Russian military airports are so hot right now!
🔥😁🇺🇦
I hope at least 5-6 huge bombers were destroyed and rest severely damaged. They are suggesting carpet bombing of Kursk oblast :(.
Looking forward to seeing the results, Moscow feels the heat & the wrath that brought upon you for all your evil works in Ukraine. Slava Ukraini.
How many airfields is that since they began the kursk invasion?
**Clarification:**
It is the **Marinovka air base** in the village of Oktyabrsky in the Volgograd Oblast. It has 2 squadrons of Su-24 aircraft according to Wikipedia. It seems to be a significant base due to it’s location near the Eastern front.
The **Oktyabrskoye airfield** is in the middle of Crimea and is operating as a reserve base and only the southern part of the base is being used according to Wikipedia.
The SU-24 is an advanced bomber that Ukraine and Russia uses to launch cruise missiles, including the R-73, SCALP, and Storm Shadow. Ukraine has about 23 left according to last count. Russia had about 159 in 2017, but has lost significant numbers. Looks like Russia lost a few more so this strike should help reduce glide bomb and cruise missile strikes on the Eastern front.
It seems that base in question is at 48.641240,43.795465. There are probably multiple smaller ammo dumps given multiple fires and detonations. This is in contrast to Morozovsk air base in which it had one very large ammo dump went up in one of the biggest explosions I’ve ever seen.
