  1. There is no need to “portray” it as the new normal. It is the new normal whether Russians like it or not lol.

  2. >Kremlin Tells State Media to ~~Portray Occupation of Kursk as ‘New Normal’~~ inform the Russian people that there is nothing they can do for them.

Russian citizens are on their own…

  3. Next they will tell viewers that the area is unimportant and was traditionally Ukrainian anyway.

  4. If you go check out Russian “news” websites, you’ll see that all of them are basically like “*meh no big deal*” like a chunk of their country isn’t literally under control of another country. It’s wild and I can’t imagine the insane headlines we’d see if Mexico broke off a chunk of Texas.

  5. God-willing, by this time next year they’ve be calling Moscow “New Kyiv”.

  6. Russia will now have to actually ensure defensive measures throughout their country, which will absolutely weaken their front-line aggressive moves.

[ISW went into detail why Russia literally couldn’t afford to mobilize and barely could equip their current recruitment to loss ratio ](https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-february-4-2024)

And with various countries giving Ukraine more flexibility with how they use their long-range weapons, which is paramount for [anti-glide bomb strategies ](https://www.rand.org/pubs/commentary/2024/06/how-ukraine-can-defeat-russian-glide-bombs.html), AND the F16s slowly arriving, AND the constant advancements to drone technology Ukraine creatively uses to do crazy things such as, I don’t know, hitting [18 different ships so far ](https://kyivindependent.com/ukraines-magura-naval-drones/), I don’t think Putin trying to distance himself from all of this will work in his favor.

  7. I like the header, “New Normal”. It signifies Putin’s inability to muster his forces to force Ukraine back to its border.

Putin now has a hard choice. Let it be and he will face people start questioning his (inept) leadership or divert resources meant for Ukraine and weaken the front there.

I hope Putin will be biting so hard on his teeth that he will break it and need new pair of dentures.

  8. I’m sure the residents of Kursk are thrilled about this new ‘normal’.
One can only wonder how many of them had been voting for Putin.

  9. That clip of Leslie Nielsen standing in front of the fireworks factory fire comes to mind.

  10. If Russia doesn’t have the resources to fight off invasion and Putin sees himself in a losing position (like really cannot deny it) is there any concern he might just launch nukes? I think Putin doesn’t see himself with a long life expectancy if he loses this war. I don’t know anything and am making a lot of assumptions but am worried that mutually assured destruction means very little to someone who would already be facing assured destruction.
