  1. I don’t see an issue with merit here. Every development requires land. When ICE car factories close, either re-use that land or return it to nature.

It seems like someone against an electric car factory is either against all development or against that particular company for a non-environmental reason.

  2. Tesla claim they’ll replace the felled trees threefold and have been planting seedlings since 2021 I believe. Granted I’m not sure about how effective their reforestation efforts are. Maybe German media is covering it more closely.

  3. Most, if not all of these were on a plantation. I.e. trees planted in a monoculture with the expressed intent to harvest them later. The Tesla factory just made them get chopped down faster.

More unnecessary knowledge: the area was originally zoned as factory space for BMW, who scraped their plans to build there some decades ago, if I remember correctly. The industrial zoning remained in place though, so the tree plantation was therefore always on borrowed time already.

  4. If you want to build GWhrs of battery, you are going to need to build GWhrs scale of factory. It’s going to need many of these to keep up with the battery requirements of a pure solar and wind grid.
