Those prices really look crazy 😰

  1. It’s insane, the only affordable place left to shop is Aldi and even they are starting to take heat: cucumbers for 1.30 euro, insane

  2. I’m currently working in Belgium and we are horrified by your prices – does it mean it wasn’t always that high? How come it’s increased that much?

  3. My gf and I do big shopping once a month, which costs about €2-300, so let’s say €270 on average. Then there’s about €30-35 of vegetables on a weekly basis (save the first week, with the big shopping), so 3.5×35= another €120. And maybe €20-30 a week for specific ingredients, bread and charcuterie. In total I’d say we spend about €500 a month. A very large part of what we eat is organic, but at the same time we eat mostly seasonal vegetables, little meat and next to no premade stuff. We cook daily, which costs time and energy as well.

I think €250/month is not a lot of money for healthy and delicious food. And once you get the hang of it, turnip, sprouts, cabbage, different type of cabbage and another type of cabage are all really good. Also, lentils and beans cost next to nothing.

  4. I noticed the same thing in Colruyt… And out of all supermarkets, the one I went to just now is one of the cheapest in Vlaanderen!

Where can I find a report of which supermarket is actually the cheapest? I only found some (interesting) news articles but not something specific. Living in a city gives you a lot of options luckily.

  5. I found carrefour is more expensive than delhaize.. products in delhaize has good quality with the right promotion though

  6. I don’t know. The percentage of my salary that goed to groceries (basic necesity) is still pretty small.
