Good. About fucking time. Every county should be given the same amount of funding and that should be split equally between the football and hurling teams in the county.
Next up, an open draw, FA Cup style for both championships. 32 teams, one from each county. Sorry London and New York, but it’s called the All Ireland, not the All Ireland + London and New York. 32 breaks down perfectly, PERFECTLY, for a knock out cup competition, 32 – 16 – 8 – 4 – 2. We don’t need provincial championships any more. They’re pointless and stacked. Is there another sport in the world where the domestic cup competition is the bigger priority over the league? And we can forget about the American format of a league that turns into a cup, that’s also stupid. A league is a league. The team at the top after all teams have played each other is the winner. Turning it into a play offs is just a stupid money grab, but that’s the gaa for you, they are the grab all association after all which is fucked is considering it’s an amateur sport where the players don’t get paid.
Nice of them to wait until after the 6 in a row. Just wanted to see how bad it could get or something?
Now just need to bring back proposal B to give the weaker counties more competitive games
Bitter jealous culchies be wanking themselves off to this.
If the object of this is to give smaller population counties a better chance of reaching the top then it’ll only work to a small extent, by far the biggest problem is sticking rigidly to the British county system with its widely varying county populations and participation rates.
More money for less players & clubs, keep the cavan boys happy
Donegal reporting in, this is good to see. Country overall could use a bit more decentralizing, God knows we need it. Hopefully this will lead to TDs pushing for egalitarian choices in terms of national funds allocation
About time!
Good news for soccer and rugby in Dublin…. and Ireland I suppose
Guess that are happy now that Dublin have such a lead it will take at least a decade for all of us to catch up. Ridiculous that it happened in the first place.
I still don’t buy into this money is the reason for the Dubs dominance. Yes they got more money but to buy and develop land for pitches and clubrooms costs multiples of what it does anywhere else.
It also worth noting that the dominant dubs team was made up of a once in a generation bunch of exceptionally skillful dedicated players. I’m sure money helped later on on their careers but the skills they had where developed at underage. So essentially your cutting money from kids …
I think the main reason for Dublin dominance is the vast majority of the players lived, worked or studied within an short distance of their training base. The same cannot be said for other counties. I know in my own county the county champions had 7 players called up and six rejected the chance to play for Cavan due to the travel involved. I know this is commonplace all over the country.
Cutting funding for Dublin will mean less players in deprived areas taking up the game because clubs will need to raise membership fees to cover the costs of running their clubs.
