As someone currently isolating due to Covid this sounds insane to me.
Cases seem to be absolutely rife at the moment. I had my booster about a week before Christmas and this thing is still going strong 8 days since testing positive. I’m still getting positive LFTs.
I’ve can’t help but think the relaxation on mask wearing has contributed to the current state of affairs..
Is this another dead cat to distract from his previous dead cat which blew up in his face
So going forward if you test positive you won’t have to isolate at all? Am I reading that right?
I thought Boris not resigning was great for Labour… But the elections are two years away. This clown will scorch the earth to shift media’s attention elsewhere.
I wonder if they’ll do it on either March 16th or 23rd so it’s exactly two years since the first restrictions and lockdown was announced. Or March 19th when we were told we had 12 weeks to turn the tide. Good times.
Tories absolutely YOLOing this to save a shit PMs career.
So glad I’m living in Scotland with our “different from England for the sake of it” restrictions.
Nowhere near the end of the pandemic according to the WHO and England is an outlier in the entire western world when it comes to this attitude.
Am I only one that actually welcomes this? Looking at numbers of people in ICU because of omicron, I think this absolutely is a sensible decision. It’s no worse than 2017/18 flu season at this point (even if that one was arguably very bad, and also let’s not forget it’s mostly because of the vaccines that omicron is quite mild).
Shouldn’t you isolate with any contagious disease you have?
Remember that report in to the parties held at number 10 in 2020 that hasn’t been released in full yet? Remember that Met Police investigation in to those parties? He’s doing a good job of creating other news to bury that isn’t he? First the Savile comment, which he knows is taking up news space, and now this “good” news.
In other news, PM on the ropes continues to reveal policies he hopes are widely popular in a thinly veiled attempt to cling to power.

I’m seeing a lot of comments saying case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths are down which is true if you’re accounting for the mid-December to early-January peaks we had. However, all three figures still appear to be higher in comparison to figures before the Dec-Jan peak.
This is sheer curiosity, and i’m not batting for one side of the other with this, but is there any reasonable analysis as to how the numbers can be higher but the rules going forward won’t tally up to what the rules were in November?
I’d be needing a lot more than just *”the numbers are lower”*.
This is insanity. He’s just trying to save his arse.
Johnson has taken a political decision to end isolation whilst infection rates are more than double they where at the first lockdown.
Would you take medical advice from someone who can’t tell the difference between an office meeting and a piss up?
I support this, we’re adults and should be treated as such. In the past when people had a cold or flu they would naturally quarantine by staying at home ill, people would say don’t come near me I don’t want you to get sick and stay in their rooms. Omicron has mutated into a cold like virus so it’s time for the world to fully move on, It’s time to let go of covid.
Sounds like he’s trying to distract people from something he’s done.
I bet he’s careful not to call it freedom day after the first time.
Imagine being so desperate to cling on to power that you’ll outright scrap self isolation rules for a deadly virus.
Don’t think Boris is doing it because SAGE genuinely believe the pandemic is over…
I hope there is never a new wave or mutation and Covid is fully on its way to being “seasonal cold”. BUT….
If there is no need to isolate then testing is “done”. If your not testing you cant track infections and new strains in the community apart from when an individual presents in hospital.
So if we do get a new wave or strain of covid we will be weeks behind the curve leading to a bigger impact on the public and potentially more deaths.
This isn’t living with covid. This is shutting your eyes and hoping for the best.
I fully support this. This needs to be treated as any other flu you get, take initiative and stay home if you’re sick. There was too much faffing around about how we should live with this, this should of been the solution last year.
I thought he’d scrapped them already? Oh yeah that was just for himself!
I am against this unless we bring back mask mandates for busy public places, why would you stop isolation *and* mask wearing during the winter?
This seems fucking bonkers. There are hardly any restrictions in place currently. It seems absolutely logical that people with a very infectious virus should not go out and meet people and spread it around further.
How I read it
Since getting the public to stop testing, the figures are looking good, and in perfect timing to help make me look good, I’m going to announce something that I think everyone wants to happen, regardless of the outcome.
I really wish mask wearing was a thing we continued to do for anyone who is noticeably ill.
UK leading the charge in the “if we ignore it, it will go away” plan. I hope people enjoyed having elderly and asthmatic people be alive
I thought they were already lifted? I assume case numbers are only going down because a lot of people think this is over and aren’t bothering to get tested anymore
Distraction from partygate. He will let people die to save his job.
Ah yes, the political approach to a pandemic.
Wondered when he’d do this to deflect from his lies, incompetence, corruption and malicious actions.
The fuck happened to the UK? Who would have thought we’d wig out about having to wear a mask.
Honestly, its embarrassing
People still comparing this to the cold? How many people have died from the common cold compared to covid?.
Yes because this certainly isn’t a blatantly attempt at appeasing the public after multiple recent scandals…
Can’t count daily covid figures if no one is reporting it can you so you might as well scrap the isolation rule as who would know you’re positive if you aren’t doing a PCR?
Removing the isolation rules mean that the Government is treating this as a minor virus just like a stomach bug or flu. This forces you are a responsible person to either go into work sick or not. Those that can get sick pay will stay off and those that don’t will continue and possibly spread it to the people they come in contact with. Roll on March/April when there’s a load of sick people spreading covid again. Don’t worry your 4th jab will sort that out.
Said it before and I’ll say it again:
It’s clear that looking at the current state of affairs that this is it; we’ve been given advice and guidance on living with COVID and been given a vaccination scheme – research will continue to develop future counter measures.
It’s now over to us
Boris gets caught with Champagne
*No more covid restrictions!*
“we fucking surrender” – the UK government
They wont rest until all the disgusting poors have either died of hunger, cold or from catching covid in their zero hour customer facing jobs
I hate this shit so much. I’m frustrated with him doing this for political reasons. If this was actually backed up by proper testing infrastructure, **proper infrastructure for long covid** (my friend with long covid has had an incredibly difficult time actualy getting specialist help or getting referred to one of the very limited number of clinics), additional mental health help…anything. Instead he’s doing this to save his own skin. Long COVID may still be a big risk for vaccinated folk – data are unclear as to whether vaccination actually reduces the incidence of long COVID – so I think it’s unreasonable to compare this to influenza which has a lower rate of post-viral fatigue complications. I am genuinely concerned about population health, and I feel that my life has been on hold for the past couple of years – not due to restrictions, but due to concerns over getting long COVID as I have seen how devastating it has been for friends. This move is only going to escalate those concerns.
Don’t forget this is the same government that said crime rates had fallen but only because they weren’t including fraud in the numbers so trusting anything they come out with is a fools errand.
The tories are why this fucking pandemic will never end
Wonder what happens if a worse strain appears, or once all our boosters wane (isn’t it like 8 weeks protection?)
Anything to shift the focus from his bumblefuck skullduggery. Never let it go.
Boris is a cunt. Can I say that here? I got blocked from twitter for saying it, apprently calling a cunt a cunt is hate speach.
I’m sorry but covid is still causing a load of fucking issues for people. I saw a man in his 30s lose vision in one eye due to a “mild case” of omicron. I’m going to keep yelling about it being a vascular disease.
