He had driven from Amsterdam to Antwerp in a rented car on the exact route taken by a car carrying Princess Amalia, the heir to the throne.
Dutch security services became suspicious after Mr Piqué appeared to be following the princess, who was reportedly the target of a recent kidnap plot by drug-running cartels, and alerted the Belgian police.

“The apologies have been made, and that’s what I wanted,” he said, as he ruled out taking legal action.

I bet that was a really scary experience for the DJ! Apparently he wasn’t told why he was arrested until after an hour of interrogation. It’s good that they apologized. It’s understandable to be on high alert after a kidnapping attempt, but that still sucks.
That’s such a terrible headline making it sound like Amalia made a racist panic call. [Given the threat she lived under](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/04/17/dutch-crown-princess-amalia-fled-to-spain-over-kidnap-fears/) it’s reasonable, in fact wise and necessary, for her to report that someone is following her. I have sympathy for the young men who unwittingly ended up having to answer questions. Ethnic profiling is no doubt real. But their car followed her and that is why she called police, not because of who drove it.
I’m alarmed and curious also at the kidnapping security threat to Amalia in Amsterdam—which is in her own country. It seems pretty serious that she needs to go to study in Spain instead. My tin foil tiara says there maybe other layers to this. Hoping someone on this sub has tea.
The cops are lucky he wasn’t american. They could have made this a reason to cause an international lawsuit, and I’d support it 100%.
