Nagasaki marks 79th A-bomb anniversary without U.S. and other ambassadors after excluding Israel

Nagasaki marked the 79th anniversary of its atomic bombing at the end of World War II at a ceremony Friday eclipsed by the absence of the American ambassador and other Western envoys in response to the Japanese city’s refusal to invite Israel.

  1. Everyone in this comment section is wrong. People who know nothing about politics are making simplistic nationalist comments, like Japan being politically bullied or not respected by any G7 allies. First of all, the U.S. Ambassador to Japan is Jewish, which likely influenced his anger at Nagasaki’s response.

Additionally, the countries that decided not to attend the Hiroshima Peace Ceremony this time have all paid their respects.

So, to those commenting here, before you fall into the simplistic mindset that Japan is being bullied or has no friends, you should realize that your own country is too weak to stand up to Israel!”

  2. Good!!👍 Japan is a sovereign nation and can invite whoever it wants. Let’s be clear: America is the one that should be apologetic to Japan (as it was the only country in history to have dropped a atomic bomb on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki) in WW2. And should not be miffed that its satellite state : Isreal hasn’t been invited, and has instructed its puppet states in the G6 to boycott this symbolic event.

  3. The news really loves to spread hate don’t they? They didn’t invite anyone cause it’s about Japan and what happened to them it’s not about the other people. Plus they said due to a war going on over there they can’t invite Israel they said they would love Israel to come but they can’t due to a war.

  4. Why would Japanese invited entities that has quite the probability on providing support for the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima or that makes matter worse, even partaken in the idea of the bombardment decision

  5. The constitution, also known as the MacArthur Constitution, "Post-war Constitution" (戦後憲法, Sengo-Kenpō), or the "Peace Constitution" (平和憲法, Heiwa-Kenpō), was drafted under the supervision of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur

  6. As an American, I apologize for my nation being a weak servant of Israel. There is no reason for us to not attend. We tell others to face their past, but we refuse to do so ourselves. I think that atomic bombs were unnecessary and were used because US wanted total victory and destruction, not peace talks and negotiations.

  7. The biggest disgrace of all is Japan's re-writing of history to paint themselves as victims. Japanese Americans on the other hand actually have legitimate grievances because of the internment camps.
